reaching for catra </3
@manic-sapphic / manic-sapphic.tumblr.com
adora wasn't the only one who spent most the series suppressing what they truly wanted
and neither of them had ever asked or been asked
good lookin out, sparkles <3
@mossheartlesbian made a really good point that the portal reality is the one instance where they actually do try to ask what the other really wants
-"Soon, the two of us are gonna be ruling Etheria together, just like we always planned."
--"Is that what you really want? To rule the world?"
-"I mean... yeah, obviously... Isn't that what you want, too?"
--"...I don't know."
the fact there's so much uncertainty in both their voices when they answer just - aggghh </3
even catra's tone betrays the confidence of her words. it's like she's just tryna guess at what would make adora wanna stay together, or more specifically, spend their lives together tbh. almost like the portal's creating their reality around those notions in catra's head. cause truthfully all catra had ever wanted was to be with adora & adora was the superstar soldier expected to shoot up the ranks, so i think catra was kinda just down to tag along for whatever so long as she got to stay with adora.
and adora had never even thought to consider what she wanted, always on auto-pilot, going in whatever direction she's pointed without question & as she says to razz, giving up her "whole life" to become she-ra. & by whole life, pretty sure she means catra. it's the one time i can think of she really alludes at all to anyone how much it was already affecting her being apart from catra and acknowledging she chose to accept her heroic destiny at the expense of having her own life, catra's place in it included. kydyfhchvpk
ps-- lines from the og script
in 5x02 when glimmer genuinely asks catra to stay with her for a little while when they’re together on horde prime’s ship, and in doing so is the first person to treat her with any humanity — doubly graceful on glimmer’s part given catra’s specific actions cost glimmer her mom — and helps catra have a system to make better choices bc now glimmer gets what it’s like to make a terrible mistake???? we love to see it
this is what a lot of people misunderstand about their relationship: they call glitra (platonically or romantically, but i'm a multishipper) toxic because they think we should have seen glimmer be forever bitter and unforgiving towards catra about the portal, but the entire point to writing their dynamic in season 5 was to recognize each other's flaws and help each other want to become better people and reform from their past actions, whether the "good guys" or the "bad guys", as glimmer called themselves. glimmer's spent the first four seasons being angry and wrecked with grief, and i think learning what it's like to let your emotions get the best of you and cloud your judgement really opened her eyes to not see catra as such a terrible villain in the war story anymore. i've noticed that glimmer tends to disregard intentions when the effects of the actions taken matter more, but she's definitely not unempathetic and adora leaving the horde in the first place really let her value intent more than she had. i think that conversation with catra that they had back-to-back on the ship after admitting they were both lonely at the end of the day really was everything for both of them in terms of character.
Wanna make out?
Could we have something with Catra and Adora huddling for warmth in the cold?
just glimmer and catra wrecking tf out of an entire goddamn warehouse. glimmer's lil wink to catra at the end tho? that's a vibe
alright i'm just gonna say what i was tempted to when i first blogged this but held back on--
Pulse is a perfect showcase of why, entertaining as these bitches be when set against each other, Glitra just would not have been a practical pairing.
Bright Moon would be in shambles. constant repairs. broken furniture. killed beds. an endless prank war that crosses over into the territory of mortal peril for themselves & everyone around them out of a sheer stubborn refusal to let the other have the last laugh.
They squeak really loud when she makes a fist.
can't help but picture adora wearing regular lil winter gloves under the fingerless croc gloves.
she reads very crocs & socks to me <3
i feel fairly certain prime had absolutely no intention of making chipped catra kill adora. nah. if anything, he chipped catra hoping he could cause adora to accidentally kill catra out of reflexive instinct.
like how catra takes a gnarly swift swipe with her claws at adora's neck just seconds after launching at her. she misses the first big swing and i can't help thinking it's no chance or luck on adora's part that catra's claws don't connect either.
cause he knew how badly it would break adora if he could force her to kill catra. i mean, just look at her expression after she reacts to catra's jump attack with a heavy punch to her face. adora had only said it moments before - "i don't wanna hurt you" - and she meant it. and i think prime was doing his best to take advantage of that.
he was pushing adora into a corner, tryna freak her out enough to do just that - hurt catra. then at some point i think adora gets extra stressed cause she realizes if prime can't get her to hurt catra - he'll just make catra hurt herself.
hurt adora? sure. maim adora? why not. but prime needed her alive. catra though? catra had gotten one over on him & laughed in his face. i think using her for this was just prime tryna have a lil fun killing two birds with one stone. but quite literally for catra.
i think he was just hoping to kill adora's spirit by making her do it. but adora strove to snap catra out of it & catra fought that chip till her entire body was shaking from how hard she was trying to keep control. the chip's influence over catra just couldn't compete with the power of their love for each other.
which was "disappointing. some creatures are destined only for destruction."
implying, to me, that since catra broke through the chip & adora obviously had helped get through to her on an even deeper level, prime no longer saw catra as a bargaining tool or of any use in controlling adora. he'd lost any kinda firm hold on catra's mind.
so he decides to go ahead and get rid of her. if he couldn't get adora to do it, he still wanted to make her watch while he did.
and eh -- big mistake. huge.
<3
initially, adora wasn't so much the wielder of a weapon as she was wielded by the weapon
^the blinding glint of the first one's she-ra, who catra felt adora left her to become
^the strong glow of adora's own she-ra, who she only became after risking everything to go back for catra
cause this she-ra doesn't fight for the first ones.
adora's she-ra was chosen by etheria. and she fights for her home, herself, & her friends.

“Healing”
My piece for the @sherafluffbang project! I was partnered with @nozomijoestar, who asked for “Something with Catradora and Healing.” I’d already been noodling around with an idea of Adora and Catra at the baths in Mystacor, and it became this. Hope you like it!
