I am Musab Ahmed. I once had a home, I once had a life… but now, everything I knew is nothing but rubble. My house was completely destroyed by the relentless bombing that took away even our memories.

My body did not escape this war—I was injured in my shoulder, underwent surgery, but I still need another operation to regain my full mobility. Yet, the greatest pain is not mine… it’s the pain of my daughter Lama, whose little hand could not withstand the bombing. She was injured and had to have a metal plate implanted in her hand, and we are still struggling to get her the treatment she needs.

All we ask for is a chance to live… A life that was stolen from us under the bombs and destruction. We need your support to continue our treatment and to try and rebuild what’s left of us.

If uppercase letters are capital letters then what the FUCK are lowercase letters

Literally lower case, fortunately!

BUT WHAT WERE THEY CALLED TO DISTINGUISH THEM FROM CAPITALS PRIOR TO THE CASE

ooh ok I know this one, the technical terms for upper and lower case letters are majuscule and minuscule, which goes all the way back to when they were essentially two different latin alphabets that were not combined together in written text in the way we do now. there's actually no specific opposite term to capital that applies to minuscule letters.

however... since capital comes from the latin caput meaning head because capitals are used at the head of a sentence or page, if we wanted to have an opposite term for lower case letters we could take it from the latin word for body, corpus. therefore, something like "corpusal letters" maybe?

The genitive case for caput is capitis, from which we get capital. The genitive for corpus is corporis, so the analog for lowercase letters would be corporal letters.

#this is also why we have the terms 'capital punishment' and 'corporal punishment' #capital punishment is punishing the head (execution) while corporal punishment is punishing the body (nonlethal physical harm)

That makes a lot of sense. How cool! Gonna call them that from now on as if it's been the name forever.
