why's it so hard to see in the dark when you're already golden?

Itโs a dark figure behind him. There are no facial features he can make out but he intuitively knows heโs staring at a side profile. The figure faces the window, yet no light illuminates its face and remains dark.
Buck feels rooted in place. He wonders idly if this is what sleep paralysis feels like. He canโt move, canโt speak, can barely breath, but he doesnโt feel scared. He feels strangely calm.
Somehow, he gains the ability to speak. His voice sounds foreign to his own ears when he asks in a very monotone voice, โwho are you.โ
