Hello! My name is Dusk, and this blog is dedicated to Minecraft Story Mode… but as cats!

Most of the stuff you’ll see here is the designs of the canon characters in cat form, with the occasional art piece using those designs. My end goal is to turn all 100+ characters into cats eventually.

I appreciate each and every person who wanders onto my blog. Thank you for being here, and thank you for remembering this wonderful game.

FAQ:

Can I use your designs in my own projects?

Yes! As long as I’m verbally credited as mcsm-catified wherever it’s posted, do whatever you want. I’d also love to be tagged so I can see what you’ve made.

Will you draw X character as a cat?

Eventually, yes! I’m going mostly in chronological order, so make sure to check whether I’ve already done it.

Do you take requests?

For designs, I only take requests for canon characters that I haven’t already done. I don’t mind going out of order for requests. As for actual art requests, you can request literally anything mcsm related and I’ll happily do it using my designs. Can be silly or serious.

Can you draw my mcsm OC as a cat?

You’d have to commission me (prices are below) but I certainly can! This also applies to AU designs you’ve made.

And here are my commission prices! It’s not restricted to just cats or mcsm. Prices are in USD, and I can only use PayPal unfortunately.

Some redesigns, because those were long overdue.

The main!! The OG!! Red-clip female Jesse because that’s who I play. Might make a bunch of designs for the rest of the Jesse’s one day, if people wanted it I suppose. Honestly just wasn’t a fan of the colours in the original design, too yellow. She is now soft brown, like coffee, and keeps the heart motif.

One I’ve been planning for a while! It’s more simple than the old design, but I think it was a good thing. Fun fact, the way I made Petra’s old design, with her being a wild cat (bobcat) and with unnatural colours (blue accents), that technically qualified her as an admin according to my design rules. Petra unknowingly being an admin (maybe being unwillingly mentored by Romeo) is a really awesome AU idea, but it is not canon sadly, so we get red stripes cat Petra like everyone else’s. Still kept her box-ness and short tail.

“Lukas isn’t an ocelot because everyone’s already done it” maybe because they’re RIGHT. Ocicat Lukas. Bro is not tabby material.

Say what you want, the last Aiden design was Complete Ass. I let him keep his robot prosthetic arm (he lost it in the fight with Jesse) because that was cool, but no more gross yellow and brown and neon green. Also he’s a tortoiseshell because I thought the colours looked good on him, so either he’s transmasc or one of those 1/3000 male torties. I’m leaving it up to interpretation because I can see it either way.

Currently working on s2e1 designs, keep an eye out for that!

Something that took me a while to appreciate about Minecraft: Story Mode is just how interesting it is to translate a Minecraft skin to an artwork. At first, I’d be trying to draw a character for the first time and run into part of the skin where I’m like “what am I looking at?” And it would take me forever to come up with something I found at least close to what I was seeing. It took me months to make an apparel reference for Vos that I was proud of.

But that’s the thing that makes it great! Having the canon rendition be so ambiguous leaves room for so much artistic liberty. And now I get to see all sorts of creative depictions of these characters and it’s amazing! Designs that look like you perfectly encapsulated how that character would translate to paper? Impressive! Giving characters your own little touches like different colors, swapped apparel, or extra trinkets? Amazing! Even designs that completely deviate from what the canon skin looks like- I appreciate them ALL.

Do you draw Petra with a bandana, beanie, or something else perhaps? Admins with biblically accurate angel features? That’s so freaking neat! Oh, you gave (insert character) this extra item? Big brain- That fits their character so well! I have seen Vos designs with everything from scarves to capes to a golden compass and I cannot get enough of them. You are so creative and you deserve the world. And don’t get me started on all the fantastic designs I’ve seen for Jesse’s armors-

At the end of the day we’re translating colored squared into outfits. And I’m all here for it. Keep it up! Keep your creative designs coming because I love them so much!

So true! This is partly why it’s easier for me to make the catified designs - since it’s so ambiguous, it’s easier to make it even more abstract to fit onto a cat’s body!

I have never seen two designs exactly the same in this fandom, and that’s something unique to Minecraft Story Mode. Everyone is so creative and I love scrolling through Tumblr and seeing everyone’s unique interpretations, and also seeing what stays mostly consistent too. Don’t ever stop, it’s one of my favourite parts of art.
