MCYT Web Weaving

@mcytwebweaving

Requests: CLOSED | Call me Web | Blog dedicated to web weaving AND mcyt | ran by @snowchester-nuke

(updated) Introduction + Request Rules

• What is web weaving?

Web weaving (sometimes called web-weaving) is a genre of transformative works of art, originated on Tumblr! A web weaving is a combination of various pieces of media from different sources, united by a common theme, topic or concept. The best way to get the concept of web weaving, in my opinion, is to look at the examples of it, so feel free to browse through my blog first or check out some of those web weavings made by other people [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]

• Who are you and what is this blog for?

Well, I am the person who is running @mcytwebweaving, feel free to call me Web :D My goal for this blog is to do the type of art I like for the fandoms I enjoy, the type of art being web weaving, and fandoms being everything mcyt-related. Also I hope that this thing here will help to spread some awareness about this obscure fan work genre and get more people to appreciate it, so ig this is also part of my mission?

• Can we request a web weaving?

PLEASE DO! But as long as you follow some rules here :P

1. Before requesting, check the request status in my profile - if requests are OPEN, go ahead! If they are CLOSED, please wait until the requests are open again!

2. Feel free to request any characters as long as they are related to Minecraft/Minecraft Youtubers. This includes less known ones, however, if I am not familiar with them, I may ask for more details!

3. Fandoms I am familiar with: Hermitcraft, Dream SMP, Untitled SMP, Voltz Wars, Redstoner, Yandere High School, Bear SMP, Earth SMP, Evo SMP, 3rd Life SMP, MCC

4. When requesting, name a character, fandom they are from and a theme, trait or a period I should center around

• Can we tag you in our web weavings/ask you to spread info about our own web weaving blogs?

Feel free to do so, as long as it is mcyt-related! I will gladly reblog other people's works 😎

hi! i fell in love with webweaving as a concept so i ended up making a separate blog for it. i posted my first web yesterday (about the topic of grief which is a bit heavy i know). your blog helped so much when i was familiarizing myself with webweaving, so could you maybe reblog my web? its okay if you say no too. i just would like it my web reached many people especially those who are currently grieving like myself. i also plan to make webs in many other topics. would you like to be mutuals? it is up to you of course but seriously thank you so much for everything💕

Hello, hope you re well! I'm looking into web weaving for research, and wanted to ask you: do you remember how and when it began as a popular practice? Alternately, when did it catch your interest? It would be super helpful!

Thank you and have a nice day!:))

Hello! Thank you for the ask!

I started this blog almost exactly three years ago, and web weaving was an established, but pretty much niche practice at the time - there were other blogs dedicated to creating and curating web weavings, but as a fandom-centric blog I had a lot of people coming here from mcyt tags, and a lot of them either didn't know about web weaving before or didn't realize it was a separate art form, because they weren't already participants of that culture. My experience is VERY biased, bc I can't say I've kept up with web weaving much before that point + i mostly dealt with web weaving withing specific fandom, but for me it felt like web weaving slowly got bigger since like. november 2021? i want to say autumn-winter 2022 felt really. the most. in that regard. It has gone even more popular after that, but if i had to pick a starting point based on my personal experience, it would be that :3 Hope my answer helps! Good luck with your research!

And if anyone here can give their input too, please do so!

heyo I have a question!! how do you assemble your web weaves so tumblr doesn’t make them display weird? every time I’ve tried tumblr has either cropped an image or automatically reformatted them so they all get shoved into a 3x3 box, rather than one on top of the other of that makes sense. have a good one!

hello boss o/ usually when i did layouts for my webs i only did that 1) from browser on pc rather than app bc layouts on app sometimes turn out messed up for me; 2) if tumblr forces all your images into 3x3, try manually adding them one by one instead of selecting several. add one -> save to draft -> edit draft add the next one -> so on if needed o7. at least thats what helped me with a similar problem before 👍

hi, I'm a high school English teacher and I love web weaving. I want to have my students do their own web weavings, but I'm not sure on the best way to go about making one. When you have an idea for one, as in, you settle on a theme, how do you find all the literature/media you weave into the theme? Do you just look up "poems about THEME" or what? Thanks for your help.

Avatar

Thank you for sending in your ask! I'll try to answer to the best of my abilities, though my process is probably not the most efficient (also I recommend looking at this post and this post where I have answered related questions)

If I don't already have something in mind that would fit a theme I'm going for, I usually do the straightforward thing and, yes, look up "poems about THEME" and similar things. The easiest starting point would probably be going on goodreads.com/quotes and just searching for keywords you have for your theme there (you just have to remember, that quotes can be taken out of context/not exactly fit your idea so it's always better to check the source material and author for the quotes first before using them). Social media is also a pretty good tool - if I feel completely lost, i just go through tumblr tags dedicated to [insert theme].

Apart from literature, I love using music lyrics in my web weavings, which is a somewhat easier ordeal, because if you go through spotify and youtube, there are playlists on literally any topic that could be of help in finding media to use.

Looking for art and photography to use is similar - just looking up the theme on web galleries and social media (and obviously looking up the author to credit) and hoping for the best.

I hope this could be of any help! Good luck to you and your students with web weaving :D

hey!!! 'm cat and this is my blog dedicated to mcyt/dsmp web weaving!!!!

How do you find good text/ writing for web weaving?

man that's what ive been saying

I do lots of web weaving so maybe I can help! following poetry/web weaving blogs here on tumblr is always a good start. some blogs i like are @araekni, @apollomusing, and @deadwatered. there are pleanty more you can find by looking through the web weaving and poetry tags. goodreads is also good for text. quotes there are separated by theme, so it's easy to find what you want. if there's a song that you think would be good for a web weave, you could always just look up the lyrics to it. the poetry foundation is also a wonderful resource. just be sure that when you find something, you know where it comes from so you can properly credit it. hope this helps!!

hello!

— 🐋 —

this post serves as an introduction and FAQ!

— 🐋 —

introduction:

hello!! i'm styx! i'm a 17 year old genshin fan, my pronouns are he/they, and i've recently found out about web weaving and want to try my hand at it 💙 i'm a hydro main in spirit

what is web weaving?

web weaving (also formatted as web-weaving or webweaving) is a genre of transformative works of art, originated on tumblr! a web weaving is a combination of various pieces of media from different sources, united by a common theme, topic or concept. the best way to get the concept of web weaving, in my opinion, is to look at the examples of it, so i'd strongly suggest perusing the #web weaving/#web-weaving/#webweaving tags! (@/mcytwebweaving used this definition first lol. they're also the inspo for this blog!!)

— 🐋 —

can i make requests?

yes, so long as it fits a few requirements!

  1. it must be genshin related! No OCs, unfortunately :(
  2. you include, at least, both a character (or characters) and/or a common theme for me to go off of!
  3. the request label in my bio must be set to open! if it says closed, i am not taking requests at that time!

— 🐋 —

go follow them right now

Starting to take lowkey emergency art commissions! All prices are for colored, shaded, fully finished art, simple one-colored/gradient background included. If you are interested in sketch/lineart commissions feel free to contact me anyway, we can work out the price

Payment through paypal only

If you are interested DM me here on Tumblr or on Discord at Lis#8206

Elaborating on my situation:

I was arrested for participating in anti-war protests in Russia. Fine for article 20.2 part 5 (what I am charged with) is 100$ - 200$.

My family is now leaving the country as well, so I need all extra money I can earn, so I would really appreciate if you reblog this post even if you are not interested in commissions yourself
