My hair care journey in the last couple years has been insane. I went from having flat and texture-less hair (from over a decade of improper care, chemical and heat treatments, bleaching) to finally learning to embrace my hair’s natural curls. It was a long process that took lots of trial and error and experimenting with different products, but I think I’m close to finding what works best for me. Now for the first time in many years I can say I’m happy with my hair! All it took was learning how to work with it, not against it.

Old homework, junk mail, and other scrap paper that I’ve scrounged up, and spent all day folding into signatures.

I plan on binding them together to make a junk journal! Though judging by how fat this stack is, I might have to make two or three of them. Maybe i can get away with just two… after all I like my journals thick.

What are some good free or affordable digital art apps for iPad? I currently use Procreate but I’d like to expand my repertoire and experiment with other programs as well.

I’ve been using USB tablets since 2009 and only recently made the switch to iPad last year and I’m still not used to drawing directly on a screen, so I could use the practice. Prior to the switch I used Clip Studio Paint for desktop as well Paint Tool Sai (my beloved!) and Corel Painter. Ideally I’m looking for programs similar to those three but I’ll take anything that’s free or affordable (and preferably not subscription based).

Throwback to last year when I made a journal out of a cereal box, an old scarf, scrapbook paper and tea stained paper!

I really want to start a project similar to this again.

my new favorite way to make art is to be carefree and aimless

It’s hard to recognize them without their bunny ears and ash blond hair but that was actually Emilia in my last painting, before they turned into a bunny. Their natural hair color is a dull shade of brown and their eyes used to be steel grey. Emilia has always struggled with mental illness but had a particularly bad episode four years ago that led to involuntary hospitalization, and a diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder. This is not so subtly based on my own experiences with the disorder, and with forced hospitalization.

Don’t worry, Emilia is fine and a lot happier now, as am I. I just needed a creative outlet to express what I went through.
