He felt small. Exceedingly small and helpless as Luo Binghe held him in his lap. This state- curse- bullshit wife plot made him feel pathetic. Worthless. And most of all, absurd.
"Eh," he's trying to talk. Shen Qingqiu is very much trying but this stupid hairless cat body has a human head but no vocal chords to make the proper sounds and consonants. He can't even yell bare bones raging expletives. This is all Airplane's fault.
Probably. Mostly likely.
It usually is.
Luo Binghe's handsome brows are twisted in distress. It's a different flavor then his usual misery. Normally Luo Binghe is full of tears and sobbing pathetically or he's gritted rage behind a smile ready to pounce. He's normally not just frustrated. He's normally not just clearly annoyed at the situation and huffing sighs as he pulls at his loose strands of hair. "Ehhhhhh," he meows(?) again trying to get a reaction. It doesn't feel like a meow. It feels like a strange grunt or huff with no direction or purpose and the sensation feels completely out of place in his throat.
"Mmm, Shizun this is really quite the situation. I'm not sure how to change you back," Luo Binghe's voice is steady enough but Shen Qingqiu can tell he's trying to hide that he's worried. Unfortunately, Shen Qingqiu has no idea what this particular strain of bullshit novel trope plot this is and how to fix it either. Obviously the normal means, sex, is out of the question! If Binghe even stops to consider he'll bite him on principle.
He's twisting in his seat because the more he thinks about it the more he's worried himself. If its not sex than what fixes this? True loves kiss? They're already married! Some hidden secret artifact he doesn't know about? How long will it take to find or make Airplane cough up and spill the beans. He feels odd. He's cat shaped but with saggy skin and a human head. He's unnatural. He's disfigured. He's something he doesn't know or understands and worse for once the one reliable element he has to assure his safety fails him in ways it never had before. This isn't a lack of feeling or self evaluation- of emotions. This is logical and something to know. He doesn't know this. He doesn't understand this. He can't grasp or comprehend what any of this means. What tropes it draws from. What purpose it serves. Why the large nipples that feel comical? Why the skin that sags and wrinkles. Why the human face but no voice? Why the thick tail shaped like a non hairless cat and not this weird sphinx wannabee nonsense? He has a normal human face and mouth but he can't talk and he feels like he's hearing Luo Binghe talking- knows and sees it- but it's muffled and broken like he's underwater. Why is he this abomination and awful patchwork of parts? He doesn't even know what caused this. They were just on a walk. He hadn't touched a weird flower. Hadn't seen a demon. Wasn't having a qi deviation! He just turned into this and he doesn't get it! Why is everything so loud and quiet all at once? Why can he see their lips moving but he can't- there's no noise. He hears nothing. He feels his throat vibrating but its not words its just sound. It's just noise. He's just noise and shapes as Luo Binghe stares at him. Oh god- what's happening?
He's panicking. He's fidgeting and hyperventilating in his husband's lap. They're saying something. He knows they're saying something but he's just loudly screaming some noise in a panic completely unsure how to handle this. He can't. He just can't. He needs to turn back right now!
Luo Binghe's lips press to his paw as he squeezes the other one. Shen Qingqiu freezes staring at the man he loves in honest shock and wonder.
I mean i get it. Toe beans and all that, but still Binghe, unsanitary and a little weird.
"Shizun is surprisingly cute right now," Shen Qingqiu feels his cheeks deepen in a flush of red- ah, you can't just say that! Especially not in such a horribly freakish state.
He hisses a little. "But Shizun is," Luo Binghe hums, "You're small and soft, and not to mention you're still my husband."
I'm going to whack you upside the head the moment I turn back. This is so embarrassing.
"Meehhh."
He's given another kiss on the nose and he considers clawing them for this before settling to resting his head on their neck and being cradled in their arms.
After all, Luo Binghe won't say it but he's clearly shaking. His foot won't stop moving. "I know," he wants to say but can't so he shyly settles for a kiss on their hands. "I love you."
"I know."
He's very lucky to have them
