Merc, 30+, she/her. Writer, Time Travel Enthusiast, Preacher of the Period Drama Gospel. OFC Fairy Godmother. PBS Nerd. Bespoke Historical AUs a Specialty, 18th - 20th centuries preferred. Anons are OFF until the current bot problem subsides.

Hi there! I’m Merc. I love period dramas, strong female leads and women’s history. Placements in 18th through 20th century preferred but not required. Historical Alternate Universes and Original Female Characters are a big part of my fandom brand.

Read more of my writing on Archive of Our Own or on Tumblr at mercurygraypresents

Current Fandoms: Masters of the Air, SAS: Rogue Heroes, Band of Brothers, The Pacific, House of the Dragon, Vikings: Valhalla, All Creatures Great and Small, Lord of the Rings

Current Projects: Band of Brothers: The Darkening Sky

It’s summer of 1942. America’s at war, and all kinds of opportunities are opening up for women - including, if the recruiting posters are to be believed, as co-ed additions to an entirely new unit of parachute infantry. Will they have what it takes?

Follow the darkening sky or 1940s Girl Gang here on tumblr for updates.

Most of my work takes the form of shorter format writing around different original characters. I regularly ask for prompts on Thursdays and Saturdays for these characters and others. (see: thirsty thursday.)

I think a lot of people are forgetting that on tumblr fandom used to be practiced very differently. now everyone fucks off to their discords or tumblr groups to discuss everything with a select few, making tags be nearly only used for posting some finished fanworks or not at all

a decade ago people didn't have tumblr groups. people didn't even have dms. if you wanted to talk to anyone about anything you had to make a post, or send an ask (which more often than not would get published and thereby become a post in the end too)

so next time you think "I have a fandom thought but I have to find a small group of hyperspecifically like-minded people to share it with in private" remember all the freaks you could be missing out on meeting by keeping the tags dead. use tags, make friends. fuck discord.

Swapped my 'winter' duvet cover for my 'spring' duvet cover and let me tell you, there's no better way to feel like you've really got your life together like clean, season-specific bedlinen.

WWII Propaganda Posters – Art to Inspire 🖼️

Victory gardens, rationing, safety at sea – during WWII the U.S. government plastered messages on posters nationwide. The Still Picture Branch holds 44-PA: World War II Posters (1942–45), including work by famed cartoonist Will Eisner. See dozens of these historic posters (from patriotic to poignant) in our Catalog: NAID 513498.

Image: “‘Of Course I Can!’ I’m patriotic as can be – And ration points won’t worry me!”. Home-front posters like this encouraged Americans to can food and save resources. ALT: Color WWII poster of a woman juggling jars of produce under text “Of Course I Can!” (NAID 515098).

Image: “Don’t be a dope – Handle equipment right!”. Cartoonist Will Eisner created Joe Dope, a bumbling GI who taught troops what not to do. (In this poster, Joe’s negligence sends a jeep’s wheels flying!) ALT: WWII safety poster by Will Eisner showing a jeep crash due to loose bolts, captioned “Don’t be a dope – Handle equipment right!” (NAID 514727).

From stirring recruitment appeals to humorous instructional comics, these WWII posters reflect the era’s spirit. Browse over 1,300 WWII posters in NARA’s holdings – an eye-catching window into the 1940s war effort.

A thousand blessings on this AO3 user who left me a comment and then came back two hours later and significantly edited the comment with more thoughts because they just needed to share them.

I hope everyone let you into traffic and you got a good seat in the meeting and your coffee was always warm today, friend.

hey!! your lack of understanding of science is not proof that science is unreliable, a conspiracy, nor evidence of a god existing. thanks.

Oh, and by the way, that Supreme Court ruling is where that Harry Potter money goes.

This isn't even a slight exaggeration. JKR has openly given at least £70,000 to For Women Scotland to campaign against trans rights and fund this exact supreme court ruling. x x

Her anti-trans Crisis Centre in Edinburgh has the director of For Women Scotland on the Board of Directors. x

We can presume she's given more (financial) support off the record or in other ways.

Rowling consistently makes passive income on all Harry Potter products. Multiple sources have cited that Rowling earns anywhere between $50 million to a $100 million each year from royalties. Forbes estimated she earned $95 million in 2017 alone. x x x

It is a well-known fact that she earns net profit percentages on all her IP. Every time you buy any HP merch, from anywhere, she gets a cut. Every time you watch one of her films, even streaming or just on the tv, she gets a cut. Every time you visit Universal Studios or Harry Potter World, she gets a cut.

And she uses that money to do this. To strip trans rights at every opportunity.

This is where that Harry Potter money goes.

Hey, you, yeah you, quit scrolling for a moment !

Worried about something? How others see it? Being weeiirrd?

NO WOE BE HAD, DEAR! That's totally hot. Yep. Everything you do is awesome and cool. Somebody else does it too, you ain't alone. Noone is. It's just that those people are quiet. Everyone is afraid, so noone knows all back and forth that the fear of being alone is why they're alone! And never forget to support the others like you when they do come out with it!

So, go do the thing!!! Draw the thing!! Write the thing!!! Talk to the person!! Come out to your friends!! Ask for help!!! Start that hobby!! Doing something is the only way to improve.

PRO TIP: In order to get "better," you need to see what better is. GO GET INSPO! Observe others' work extensively! Or just closely, again, you do you. Pay attention to other people and real things for reference to the fantasy! Whatever you need to do, i strongly advise the following steps:

1. Think. Yeah. Think of the think to have an idea of what you want to happen. Collect critical details.

2. Try doing it once. Make a small project. This can go two ways.

2a: Do the thing, but inspired by your ideas.

2b: Do the thing, but to have fun with the process and experiment with your materials.

2.5. Yeah, no, LEARN YOUR MATERIALS BEFORE TRYING TO DO SOMETHING OFFICIAL! Please. It'll 1000% help you. Like, a lot less problems. Poof.

3. If you're happy, keep going with it. Not happy? Stressed? Especially confused? NOW is the time- go look at work by others! Make notes of what you issues were, and go research that. Piece by piece of this, you'll be free. Or not.

That's what life is, always something new whether you realise it or not. Issues will persist and appear and taunt you. Don't let not knowing how the heck to draw a hat at an angle rule your life. Being unable to write a serious character interaction doesn't deserve to hurt you in such ways. Keep going. Someone believes in you, if you know or not. Suppoet yourself, and please, have a great day.

I would love for this message to be spread, so the people who need it can see it. And yes i know many people have had the "ppsshh, HAH, this is so stupid and i could never and i have tried that and i can't-" That's where i'm gonna stop you. I'm the exact same way about my mental health. Anyways- But, you can! Eventually! EVENTUALLY! Never say never because never is never and... just believe in yourself. It's not like it's an adult speaking here either, no! I'm a young teen, actually. Probably younger than the majority of you! So, remember, it's not time you need, it's experience and thought.

Very silly question for the room: I keep getting jumpscared (and given AU ideas, lbr) by the local jazz radio station in Chicago advertising Winters' Jazz Club and Andy's. Which MOTA guy (besides Rosie, that's an easy answer) is opening a jazz club and what's it called?

Friend: shares a heart-wrenching story about yet another female WWII ferrying pilot who died in a probably preventable accident Me: hey thanks for sharing this. Me: ...actually this is giving me an idea Other Friend: DON'T KILL CORDELIA Me: I would never Me...okay but now that you've said that...
