@merthurweek2024 Day Seven: Magic Reveal + Cannon era The first few days Merlin was nowhere to be found, Arthur was very calm. Relatively.

After all, this just happened from time to time. Alright, perhaps he stalked around the castle screaming for his manservant, but that was just because his clothing needed washing, his bedsheets needed changing, his armor needed polishing, and the lazy idiot was not there to do his job AGAIN.

After the first week, however, he started to worry in earnest. Especially because he had confirmed Merlin was not, in fact, in the tavern but on a mission for Gaius. It shouldn’t have been dangerous, though.

The second week was when the search parties started. They scoured the forest around Camelot with Arthur at the lead as he tried to remain calm and kingly. Something awful had happened to Merlin. He knew it. And Arthur needed to find him, and find him now!

By the third week, he was in full-blown panic, not even trying to remain calm. Merlin was gone. His Merlin. He could be dead somewhere… Perhaps they would never find him. Perhaps they were too late! Arthur led the search with greater fervor. He was desperate.

He finally found him while he was out searching with Lancelot and Gwaine. Arthur spotted him through the thick foliage. He was fairly sure he had never been happier and more relieved in his life. Which was a bit extreme to feel for a servant, but Arthur did not care! This was Merlin.

As Merlin stepped out into clearer view, Arthur's heart tightened at his condition. Merlin’s clothing was torn, there was dry blood staining it, and he was covered in dirt. But! He was walking on his own, despite a limp. He was not on the edge of death like Arthur had feared. Merlin was alive. Beautifully and wonderfully alive. 

Arthur rushed forward without thinking, going to hug his dirty manservant. “Merlin! I thought we’d lost you!” I thought I’d lost you, he added internally.

Merlin stepped backward out of Arthur’s reach. The whites of his eyes showed in his sudden panic and fear.

MERLIN & ARTHUR | EVERYWHERE

It's finally published!! My 2 year old WIP!! I came back to it a couple days ago, pushed through and finally finished it! And just in time for @merthurweek2024! (this doesn't follow a specific prompt but I hope this counts nonetheless)

It was time I made a happy merthur vid. I love this song so much and I thought it was perfect for these two, who go literally everywhere together, from the enemies’ dungeons to crawling through sewerage.

@merthurweek2024 Day Five: BAMF Merlin + Angst with a happy ending The look on Arthur's face when it had finally come out that night in the woods, when Merlin had used his magic to protect him so visibly, was seared into Merlin’s brain. The desperation and betrayal. The hurt and anguish. It had only gotten worse as Merlin told him everything about the things he had done, Arthur's father and freeing the dragon included. 

“You didn’t trust me.” The words had cut into Merlin like a dagger. No assurances that he planned to tell him eventually would have helped. So Merlin did not try. “You shared my bed, but never thought to trust me!” Arthur’s eyes were filled with betrayal. “I need time,” he had said. “I cannot believe you didn’t trust me, Merlin… I’ve shown you all of me from the beginning… but you did not.”

Merlin lay down on his bed and squeezed his eyes shut, trying to hold fast against the pain and regret. Arthur would not forgive him for this. It had been about a week, and Arthur had shown no signs of forgiveness. Accepting that things were over was better than hoping in vain, right?

Merlin still hoped for it, though. He hoped for it desperately, down to the deepest reaches of his soul. No matter how much he tried to make himself accept the new reality. some part of him always hoped they would get past this.  

He must have fallen asleep, because he woke the next morning hoping that the reality of what he had done had been a dream. If it was, he would tell Arthur immediately to stop that dream from EVER coming true. But no, he was in his bed in Gaius’s room, not in the bed he had, until recently, shared with Arthur. There was no escaping this reality where he had caused the other half of his heart so much pain. He expected he would never know Arthur’s touch and intimate trust again.

But then, sudden hope. A message. Arthur wanted to ride in the forest with him. Merlin could have danced. Alright, sure, Arthur had not made the simple trip to Gaius’s chambers and just sent a messenger. But it came down to the same thing.
