Lace is love, lace is life

This week's lace project

I'm pretty sure the thread I'm using is a bit thick, but it's also going a bit "fluffy"?

Is there anything I can do about it?

Is waxing my thread a good idea? Or should I use another thread (thickness issues apart)?

It is a nice improvised setup. I am not sure I can help with fluffy thread, is it actually causing issues?

Thickness wise, it looks like this pattern would expect something like a dmc special dentelle 80. In case you are working on a similar scale in the future.

Does bamboo fiber? Like can you actually make cloth from it? Or when they say bamboo sheets they mean bamboo > oil > plastic > sheets

Bamboo fiber is rayon, aka a processed cellulose fiber.

It's classed as a semi-synthetic. It is biodegradable, but it does take a bit to make it. It's not plastic, but making it can have harmful effects on the environment if caution isn't taken during manufacturing.

SO, if something says 'bamboo fiber sheets', what they mean is 'these sheets are made from rayon, which was made from bamboo'

You can make rayon from almost any plant feed material tbh. Rose fiber, banana, ect.

Almost always yes. Fun fact though, bamboo does have fibers that you can spin after mechanical processing. If something says itโ€™s made from bamboo bast, itโ€™s not rayon. You can even buy it as fiber if you want to spin it yourself.

Oh for real? I need to get my hands on some then, I've not worked with it.

New embroidery!

Woolwork on black, of a local coat of arms. It features a moose (Jรคmtland) being attacked by a wolf and an eagle (Norway and Sweden).

The piece is actually a tool kit, with pockets for whatever you need to store.

every time i'm reminded that caul fat (also known as lace fat) exists i get so mad that it hasn't inspired a popular lace pattern like all the floral and crochet stuff

look at this and tell me it wouldn't eat (pun fully intended)

something so anthropomorphic about my spinning wheel all wrapped up and buckled into the passenger seat that I find myself throwing my arm out whenever I hit the brakes

my beautiful adopted daughter who is too light to engage the airbags

GUYS Iโ€™VE FOUND A VERY IMPORTANT WEBSITE FOR PEOPLE WHO CAN KNIT WITHOUT INJURING THEMSELVES!!!!

DRAGON KNITTING!!!

@rannadylin if youโ€™re into that

There is also info about where to buy the scales, a video tutorial for visual learners, and a written tutorial with lots of photos.ย

She also sells patterns for these:

!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh!!!!!!!!!!!

Iโ€™VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS EXACT TUTORIAL BUT ALL I COULD FIND WAS FOR CROCHET!!

@jumpingjacktrash jesse i feel like youโ€™ve seen this before but i need you to also see it now because i feel like itโ€™s something youโ€™d think is neat

i have, but itโ€™s cool enough to see again. :D

I believe I am onto something interesting with this. I am actually quite excited.

This is not stranded knitting, but slip stitches. In my opinion it is easier to knit with many colours using slip stitches rather that stranded knitting, because I get to knit with only one yarn at a time. And slip stitches create such interesting textures.

This is going to be my contribution to scrapalong 2025, even if it is not strictly scrappy, only partly scrappy. It is going to be socks.

turns out! when u spend time to knit the second sock. you finish the second sock. and then! you get a pair of socks. who knew!

tumblr isnt allowing to tag the person who wrote this:

but i want u to know that u have slain me where i stand, bc in the time that i have finished 2 pairs of socks (and i expect to hit 3 today), a single mitten has been languishing in a project bag. when i last touched that second mitten, i had never knit a sock before. how dare u.

i promise you, op, it was a self callout

in a fit of foresight, i knit the year i made the first mitten into its thumb, so i can constantly shame myself for having spent Ten Entire Real-Life Years having made only one mitten
