Supergirl #1!
Hey Sophie! Hope you're doing okay. You mentioned a story idea where Baxter turns April into a fly because she found out some stuff on him. Can you share more about that? What led up to him mutating her? How did he manage to do it with mutagen and ooze being hard to come by after the bomb? Were there plans about showing the mutation sequence? Like her eyes bulging, or growing extra limbs, or her fingers and toes merging? Or was it more of a behind-the-scenes mutation? I'm just trying to get a better picture of how the story might have unfolded. Thanks, and sorry if I'm asking too much all at once!
Hi! Haha, yeah, April-Fly! It started out as a joke I made to my then-editor but then afterward I was like wait a minute, that might actually be something cool. The basic idea was something like April finds out the depths of what Baxter is doing as mayor of NYC and she threatens to expose him. Instead of having her killed (very messy), Baxter has her mutated into a fly to silence her, since who would believe anything a disgusting mutant has to say? It would've been pretty fun, April adjusting to it and having to prove to the Turtles she is who she says she is, but ultimately we decided not to pursue it partly because it seemed like just a shock thing (not that I don't love shock) and partly because the powers-that-be would never let us keep April a fly mutant forever and then we'd have to undo it and then what's the point. I did have a couple fun ideas for how to demutate April, though, one involving something like The Fly 2 where the only way to demutate someone is to transfer the mutation to another non-mutant person, so she uses Baxter's tech to transfer the mutation to him so she dooms him to being Baxter-Fly, and she has to live with the morally-questionable act. I can't remember how we ironed out the logistics of Baxter having mutagen when post-bomb there wasn't any left, not sure if we even got that far with the storyline, but I seem to remember it wouldn't have involved regular mutagen and been something more like the telepods in The Fly, some sort of extension of whatever technology he was using to create all those Flyborgs, something more complex than just dumping mutagen on April.
A lot of the themes that Wet Moon seems to grapple with, like coping with past underage SA, dealing with being in your early 20s, the nuances and complications of friendships between girls, even the punk fashion - seem very similar to the works of Ai Yazawa’s “Nana”! I really hope this comparison doesn’t offend you, I have just started watching the latter recently and I noticed it. Have you ever read/seen it? If not, what has influenced the creation of Wet Moon?
Hi! I've never read/seen Nana, no, but it looks great. I've read a bit of Yazawa's other series Paradise Kiss which is pretty good. The main influences on Wet Moon were the show Twin Peaks and real life experiences in high school and college, both my own and things that happened to people I knew, along with stuff I made up.
I hope tmnt questions aren’t too annoying right now which everything else you’ve got going on, but I’m curious to know, what species of falcon is Koya? I’ve seen brown falcon floated on some wiki pages but I’ve never been able to track down any source to confirm that claim. Is there even a decided answer? What were some of your references/inspirations for her design?
Hi! TMNT questions are cool, it's okay! :) Koya is a brown falcon, yep. I had originally wanted her to be a peregrine falcon since they're native in Japan, but she had already been colored brown in a previous issue in her pre-mutation form (I forget which issue it is, where Shredder is training her) so I had to stick to that to some extent. Her coloration changed a bit over the course of the series, though, with her markings becoming black for design reasons so she looks kinda more peregrine-like.
Very excited for your Supergirl run! Question, and idk if you're allowed to answer, but is the Lena Luthor mentioned in the solicits to issue 2 Lex's sister or is she his daughter who's been showing up in the current Superman title?
Thanks! :D This Lena is the Lex's daughter character who's been in Superman.
I’m so excited for your run on Supergirl! I see you’re pulling from the past with Kara, like bringing her back to Midvale and characters like Lesla Larr. Can we expect other things from her history to return like her friendship with Cassie Sandsmark and Stephanie Brown from the 2000’s?
Thanks! Glad you're excited! :D Although right now I'm focusing on the Superfam characters and Silver/Bronze age stuff, I've thought about having characters from other series show up, yeah. Nothing concrete at the moment but it's definitely on my mind. We'll see! ;)
I'm not sure if you can answer this but I was wondering: from what I gather the Kara in your book is pre-crisis Kara (the same one from Waid's World's Finests). Will her surviving Crisis on Infinite Earths be explained? Have the Karas from the other continuities (post-crisis and new52) been erased from the timeline or somehow merged in this one? Can Kara remember those events?
Hi! Kara in my upcoming book is post-crisis/Prime Earth Kara. The one in World's Finest is also post-crisis but at a different point in time, it's the same Prime Earth continuity as far as I know except set in the past. I'm admittedly not an expert in any way, though!
Okay I have an update on this, I was kind of half right half wrong, haha. Editorial says because of Dark Crisis, everything counts now, everything is potentially on the table, including Kara having Pre-Crisis memories AND memories from the New 52. So that means she did die in Crisis on Infinite Earths but my editor says how exactly she was resurrected hasn't been explored yet. @_@ My head is spinning!

Hi! I just discovered you have a Tumblr here and I just wanna say that I'm loving your art and I can't wait to see what you've got in store for the new comic run of Supergirl in May this year! I'm honestly happy my girl's getting some love which she needs the most imo. I also made an imagine/short story about Kara's return to Midvale, adding the Male Reader into it as her love interest, inspired by the announcement of course.
Quick question though: if there was to be a love interest for Kara, and since it's taking place in Midvale, who would he be? I have a feeling that some old characters from DC's forgotten past might show up, characters like Richard Dick Malverne, who was one of Kara's long known love interests before hand. I'd be really surprised if he shows up and is Kara's love interest. And since he lives in Midvale, it's interesting to theorize (I know you can't give out spoilers but it's one of my theories currently, lol, he's one of my picks when it comes to canon love interests for Kara, besides Brainiac-5).
But yeah, very excited to see what you have in store for us Supergirl fans in May 2025, been long awaiting since Midvale would come back into play, especially since it's the home of the Girl of Steel herself!
Hi! Thank you so much, glad you like my art! I don't think I know what/who Male Reader is, I might need an explainer on that one, I'm looking on the DC fandom/wiki site but can't find anything!
I do have a love interest planned for Kara but he's a new character! ;) Dick Malverne came up quite a bit in early discussions, I would have loved to use him but unfortunately he's still dead. The continuity is admittedly still kinda confusing for me but I'm writing it as Dick having died at some point years prior. We mention him in issue #1 and I'm sure his death will pop up again since it's a big thing in Kara's past, it would be cool to explore that stuff.
Anyway, great to hear you're excited, hope you like the comic!!
Hello! I don't really know who you are but I promise to change that. I really like the art of your yuan-ti rogue character Kexilath!
I was looking for designs for my yuan-ti pureblood character that I want to have a good mix of snake and human features, and I think your design is a great example of that. So thank you for the inspiration!
Thanks!! It's wild how far my Kexilath drawings have spread over the past few years. O_o Maybe I should draw her again one day.
hi! i love your art :3 thank you for the mothra comics. can't wait to receive mine! :3 (i'm french so it takes longer). do you have any mothra art you can share? :3 thank youuu
Hope you like the comic! Thank you! I think I've already shared all the Mothra art I have so far, except for the covers that haven't been revealed yet. ;)
