Therapist: And what do you think is the driver of your anxiety?

Me: Visions of things that were, things that are, and some things that have not yet come to pass.

the way the last of us shows queer love through touches makes me weep

The way Dina’s hands clasp around Ellie’s shoulders like it’s the easiest thing in the world. The band singing the lyric “oh when shall I see jesus” when Dina decides to slide her hands down Ellie’s shoulders. The clinging to each other in a crowded room like a lifeline. The way Dina rubs Ellie’s back without thinking when they dance. Warmth spreading from cheek to cheek, hand to hand. The way Ellie has to shift and pecks her lips gently at first because neither of them know what they’re doing. Showing queerness under warm, gentle lights.

I’m so glad they didn’t show the porch scene yet. I love the placement of it in the game. We need to *not* understand Ellie’s motivations for a time, she’s supposed to be complex and taciturn to the audience, she’s supposed to lose us a bit. And the porch scene and the context it provides bring us back to her at a pivotal point in the story.
