i really like arcane bolt which is the basic, fundamental spell in dao that just does moderate single target damage but has a short cooldown so it can be cast repeatedly extremely quickly. we can kind of assume it’s the first combat lesson taught to all mages bc almost all mages start with it including the player character. (actually every mage even briefly playable in dao + the dlcs has it EXCEPT morrigan, fascinatingly. velanna has it so it’s not just circle mages. in my heart that speaks to morrigan’s uniquely isolated and potentially out-of-date education.) it does spirit damage and the similar spell in da2 is called spirit bolt & falls into the spirit tree rather than the arcane one. that makes it super visceral to imagine for me because it seems that what you’re doing to cast that fast, basically, is taking raw fadestuff, not fashioning it into fire or ice or anything, but just throwing it with the pure purpose of an arrow. dragon age magic is about imagination and willpower, about believing something and then using your connection to the fade to enforce that belief on the world, and i love the efficient simplicity of putting absolutely nothing into the world except this is going to hurt. anyway i like to imagine that different mages’ arcane bolts have signature colours i think that would be super cute

sorry the fandom got a hold of your blorbo and flattened him into a one dimensional paragon of purity and virtue. yeah, they erased the time he sliced the flesh off his living enemy and force-fed it to him. yeah, the part where he raised the corpses of people’s ancestors and made them slaughter entire families is gone too. sorry, the bullheaded arrogance that led to deaths of thousands is now a praise kink. all that’s left is a loudmouth twink with a rape fetish. oh, yeah they’re fine with that part.

the warden only becomes the warden in order to survive. hawke is desperately trying to build a new peaceful life for themself. even the inquisitor just doesn’t want to die from the anchor. something about characters whose motivation is just to live, live a safe boring life, the hope for which is torn from them again and again by the circumstances they cannot help but respond to because with any other option they would be betraying themselves

I've been replaying DAO and I have to admit it's kinda hilarious how each class' 'evil' specialization is obtained.

For blood magic, one must sell the soul of an innocent child to a demon.

For the reaver specialization, one must defile a sacred artifact for a crazed cultist and drink dragon blood.

For an assassin, one must be nice enough to Zevran that he's willing to show you. Zevran has morals.

One of these is not like the others.

A very quick study of John Singer Sargent’s “Portrait of Madame X,” except with Vivienne.  Because, you know- fandom trash.

good morning to 40 year olds who act 80, bisexual terrorists, autistic empaths, insomniac assassins, and everyone else who’s got the spirit
