not immune to size difference propaganda

no but that scene in like "rage of caliban" i think, where chas is like "ok so what do you want to do today?" & john, while eating the breakfast chas has 100% made for him, either before or after having had to go pick john up from where he was FLEEING THE SCENE of his latest one night stand whose boyfriend just showed up, is like "go back to bed, tbh," and also i think "sea of love" is playing in the background? iconic stuff tbh.

like go ahead & try to tell me chas is not internally debating whether he's going to kiss or kill that man w/in the next 30 seconds

i love how everyone's take on this is that John's little "go back to bed tbh 😉" is him propositioning Chas

Who do you think the audience of this post is?

What made you think that 'but only if it's safe for you!' was a valuable insight that needed to be added?

I am genuinely curious about this because it seems to be a generational divide; millennials and older tend to presume 'at your own risk' and 'we can trust your personal risk assessment, as an adult human person' and 'we don't need to specifically warn you that sometimes things are dangerous and that it's ok to not put yourself in danger'

Like, I want to dig into the shifting cultural norms that have led to this being a common response to this post.

I’m going to be kind of a dick here and say that it’s self-absolution. Because generally speaking, people who are unsafe know they’re unsafe. But endlessly repeating the “only if it’s safe” mantra allows people are aren’t actually unsafe to give equal weight to their discomfort at the thought of speaking out.

Someone who knows they are unsafe will usually know not to speak. But someone who is uncomfortable will think “oh, but remember, if it’s not safe, and maybe it’s not, because I am Uncomfortable about what might happen and that’s Bad”. It gives people a chance to internally rebrand Awkward Consequences as Personal Endangerment and thereby avoid having to do anything at all while retaining the moral high ground.

DING DING DING we have a winner!

“This is what Shakespeare would have wanted.”

“Shakespeare wouldn’t have wanted this.”

No! You’re both wrong! Shakespeare wanted one thing and one thing only. To sell tickets.

If people spend money at the Globe theatre and don’t steal his bones then his ghost is happy

“Good friend for Jesus sake forbeare, To dig the dust enclosed here. Blessed be the man that spares these stones, And cursed be he that moves my bones.”

Shakespeare’s actual grave. He put a curse on anyone that tries to touch his bones. That’s what Shakespeare wants. Buy tickets and don’t touch his bones.

What if Shakespeare just REALLY wanted to curse someone though? What if he’d be DELIGHTED if you moved his bones because that means that he FINALLY gets to enact a curse on someone?

Every time you think that the grave robbing side of Tumblr is dead it just digs itself up again.
