In DD vol 1, Frank goes to prison seemingly to have Matt not become a killer. In DD vol 6, he appears glad that Matt's finally killed and hopeful that he'll cross to his side of the line.
Do you think that's consistent with his character or it's just comics logic as in "it depends on who is writing the character"?
I loved both of the interactions anyway.
I think part of it does depend on who's writing the character, and you could wash your hands of it there, but if we want to look at it from the perspective of in-universe character motivations:
You could say that Frank's testing Matt. In the prison arc (which I love), this happens:
And then when Frank rescues him:
For comparison, this is what happens in Daredevil 2019 #4. Frank tries to get Matt to admit he's a murderer, and when Matt denies it, Frank tries to force his hand. In this arc, Matt actually did kill someone--by accident--and is in denial about it here. Frank says that if Matt's crossed the line and is killing people now, he might be next, so he threatens to kill Matt first.

“You have a Roman profile.”
“How the fuck do you know?”
Matt smiles, tracing his fingers over Frank's face. “I went to university. Art history kinda comes with the territory. They uh, make special provisions for people with disabilities.”
“Eh?”
“They let me touch the art. The sculptures.” Matt pets a finger from the top of Frank’s forehead down his nose. “All those emperors and philosophers… had profiles like this."
“Makes sense. I wanna punch philosophers too.”
Matt chuckles, “Of course you do.”
“You kiddin? I get why some asshole claiming 'actually, your whole world view is wrong' might get his nose broken a few times.” He squeezes Matt’s nose between two knuckles, shaking gently.
“Maybe a rib or two. Never my nose. Yet.”
“Wouldn't wanna mess up that face.”
“But messing up my body is fine.”
“You lived through it.”
“Sort of," Matt smiles, but there's a heaviness they can both hear.
“Hey. Hey. You’re alive. And me. That’s my fuckin’ point here. Why…” Kisses his nose. “Why this kinda shit’s important.”
“Yeah.” Matt's quiet a long moment. “Yeah.”
