100 yr quest seems to be in such a race to power up the characters the actual emotion/motivations have been left in the dust. I genuinely don’t think anyone has really grown that close, all emotional moments are just a lead up to a joke.
I think Gray is the only one surving atm but he’s still pulling out the ice shell when I feel he should never do that again, I’m hoping it’s a fake out.
It feels like a road trip which would be fine if the stakes weren’t so high, it’s suffering such a tone problem.
Lucy summoning dragons also doesn’t make that much sense to me, I hope she struggles with it or this dragon key doesn’t open in the conventional way she does it.
I’m even curious how it would even cost Lucy much magic. The Celestial spirits are crossing worlds and their time in Earthland drain Lucy’s magic. But essentially teleporting this dragon is confusing to me.
Also does this imply Igneel could’ve had a key?? Couldn’t all of these dragons have passed on keys instead of this eclipse plot?? Maybe I need to re-read the manga again…

I dislike second origin! I hate it! Ik it seems silly to dislike 'power of friendship' when going into FT but that's because it only applies to certain characters like Erza and Natsu. Whereas Lucy Gray and Wendy, characters that are allowed to lose and grow have to be resourceful and make for some quality battles.
I think i'd like second origin if it was more consistent.
I respect FT are like yah emotions do boost power but just because Mashima acknowledges it i still think it is lazy. There's plenty of battles I would change or qualities I'd introduce that would give characters more to work with.
I liked the gmg but I always get surprised how people rave for it. Natsu and Gajeel getting bodied only for Natsu to 1v2 Sting and Rogue whilst well animated was a head scratcher for me. How are Rogue and Sting 'half baked'? it is never explained. If Natsu gets a second origin why can't Sting and Rogue? I wish Mashima instead introduced the idea that maybe Sting and Rogue rely too heavy on fighting together so maybe if Natsu and Gajeel targeted one Dragon slayer it would all fall apart. Just something else, something strategic.
I wish Kagura's sword that Minerva used to take down Kagura was ultimately the weapon Erza used to win the match. Not the ass pull we ended up getting.
I'd never change ErzaV100 that was pure aura from my girl.

The naval battle UGHHHHH hated it. Sure let Minerva make and example of Lucy but my godddd can my girl not be sexualised on top of it???? I think that was one of the most vile choices FT has ever made. (Along w/ Erza being captive in Tartaros ) I'd keep the Minerva win but get rid of the Naval swimwear/fanservice portion.
Kagura V Yukino I'd change everything. Yukino being given more powerful celestial spirits was annoying af but THEN Kagura takes them all out in a few minutes??? Like put some respect on the Celestial spirits man. and Ophiuchus omg how tf did they introduce that spirit and he does NOTHING. I'm not exaggerating it appears and Kagura just defeats it. WTF. like?????????????? we really never gonna go back to that? We really gonna waste this forbidden 13th gate to hype up Kagura. This should have been the edge that gave Yukino some skin in the game. Like maybe his skin in impenetrable and Kagura considers taking her sword out. but the spirit is too tempermental and hard to control and it's Yukino that can't hold the gate open. Yukino is clearly struggling and maybe Kagura see's this and guns for Yukino. It's seen as really brutal by the audience but to the readers we learn Kagura is merciful and noble. It would foreshadow her changed stance on Erza later on.
Mirajane V Jenny. I'd just make them fight.
I think characters being resourceful and making use of their environment makes for engaging conflict. By GMG the power of friendship just became so boring to me. I genuinely would begin skipping Erza and Natsu's fights cause I knew they just had to get angry and that would be all they needed.
I think Mashima would consistently write himself into a corner (and lets just appreciate this man was pumping out these chapters every week with insanely beautiful art quality and I could never do that myself) and then he'd just shrug and say well emotions! The worst example i believe was Erza losing all her senses and still managing to fight or her breaking all her bones yet still destroying a comet. I believe the fix would simply be that Erza had just broken 1 arm not that she'd broken both her legs too.
I would get into Natsu battles but I'll be honest I started skipping them after Alvares .
I tried expressing my issue on TT but i got called sexist cause I was using Erza as an example. So let me clarify I love Erza. I love that she is super strong and stands on aura. I just wish she was written differently in battle.
