Arthur, now very confused and trying hard not to let his jealousy show because he wants to be a good, just king: Leon courting Merlin is not a crime

Leon confused as well: Well of course it's not written down like that. But courting the kings... Uhm *clearing his throat and staring at the floor awkwardly* lover is quite disrespectful.

Arthur now blushing furiously sputters: Merlin?! My lover?!

Leon: Uh Sorry I didn't mean to offend you... Or him! I just thought you wanted the marriage to stay secret. I mean yes he always is carrying Queen Ygraines sigil with him but I just-

Arthur: LEON! Merlin is my servant. I'd never- I can't- He's just my servant nothing more. Please tell me you haven't told anyone of this crazy assumption of yours

Leon, disbelieving after a loooong moment of silence: My CRAZY assumption!?!? Wha- YOU'VE BEEN UNDRESSING HIM WITH YOUR EYES EVERY TIME YOU TWO ARE IN THE SAME ROOM!!! I didn't have to tell anyone!!!

Arthur: So who else thinks-

hands down the bbc merlin version of the sword in the stone legend is the funniest possible version of it. this big dramatic scene of arthur realising his true potential and finally believing in himself as a king as his remaining subjects watch in awe, witnessing a sign that their king is destined to carry camelot to greatness, because this legendary prophecy about removing the sword from the stone has finally come to pass,

and then merlin’s in the background whispering to gaius just ‘yeah i stuck that in there like last week and made the story up on the spot. gonna use magic to make it look like arthur’s actually doing something’ SIR PLEASE

Arthur goes straight to Merlin in "Valiant" after arguing with Morgana and I'm MELTING please!!! He- He must have been so lonely before Merlin! And then that annoying boy who never shuts up and keeps insulting him turns out actually shows care for Arthur's well-being and life and just pushes and pushes to do something about the magic snakes and when it all goes south he still goes checking up on him and now he's got a little friend for himself! An actual friend and now he is the first one Arthur looks for in a room crowded with knights and nobles and familiar faces cause talking to Merlin just feels natural and easy

"I have a secret."

Arthur looks up from a report and glances across the room absentmindedly to Merlin holding a dagger he was polishing in his lap as he watches Arthur with a tilt of his head.

Arthur huffs a laugh, "Is it that you're secretly a girl?"

Merlin's lips tick upward for just a moment before continuing his stare.

Arthur watches him for a few moments, and then puts his quill down.

"You have a secret." Arthur repeats seriously.

Merlin just smiles, a small one, "I have a secret. It's an important one. But I can't tell you the secret. And I can't tell you why I can't tell you."

Arthur squints his eyes as Merlin looks down to keep polishing.

"Are you in danger?"

Merlin pauses to think which makes Arthur clench his fists in worry, not that he'd say that.

"...I suppose," He says slowly, thinking over his words, "But it's to my understanding- at this time at least -that it's no more or less dangerous for me whether you know or not. I do think it may be more dangerous for you if you know though."

Arthur hums and watches Merlin's face but sees nothing but earnestness as they meet eyes across the room.

"And why do you tell me this?"

Merlin just smiles again, but bigger this time, "I've decided I trust you with it. I trusted you before of course," he add hurriedly as if Arthur would ever think otherwise,

"But I just realized that I trust you with this, too. And this is something I've never trusted anyone enough to share it with- before I mean. And if it comes up, well, I'd rather be able to tell you that I can't tell you then to lie to you. So, this is me telling you there's a secret."

Arthur looks thoughtfully before raising one eyebrow along with a ghost of a smirk on his face, "So you have a secret you can't tell me. But you trust me with it. When do I get to hear the secret?"

Merlin leans his head on his hand as he looks sideways at him impishly, "I will tell you no lie if you ask."

Arthur hears the unspoken words bright as day:

I'm not going to say anything by myself cause I don't think it's time yet, but I will tell you the truth regardless if you so choose.

Arthur hums to himself before nodding once and then twice, ignoring the giddiness in his heart.

Picking up his quill again, he says, "You missed a spot," so he can hear his manservant squawk from across the room, "I'm not finished yet, you prat!"

They meet gazes one more time with matching fire in their eyes and grins on their faces before resuming their activities.

It's nice to be trusted.

Bill thinks all meatbags are all gross and slimy, except this one…this one’s pretty alright.

Arthur: So as a dragonlord you are a king of dragons right?

Merlin: No I wouldn't say king

Merlin:... It's more like family

Arthur, thinking of Kilgharrah: So you're what? Their father??? Does that make me a father as well??

Merlin, thinking of Aithusa: Hm maybe?

- some time later -

Kilgharrah stares down condescendingly at Arthur

Arthur with a serious expression and his hands on his hips: I understand this might be a confusing situation for you... son

To be loved is to be known. And Arthur knows that merlin doesn’t like dressing hares. Merlin knows arthur likes poking the fire, but has chosen to ignore this fact.

the complete mischaracterization of early season merlin (every season merlin actually 🙄) gets me so bad in fanfics bc he actually had the funniest crush of all time on arthur. he’s such a fucking loser teenage boy with a crush. like obviously there was that rivals thing that last for like not even 48 hours, but also merlins complete ranting about how arthur thinks himself so cool and smart and tough (and handsome) when MERLIN is the one who is cool and smart and tough (and handsome).

why doesn’t arthur think he’s the coolest, smartest, toughest, (most handsome) man ever? how could he be so blind? gaius, let me tell you about all the times I was the coolest, smartest, toughest, (most handsome) man ever like when I saved arthur’s life 4 times this week. see, arthur really should just acknowledge how superior I am to him in every way (and swoon at my feet).

It’s so fucking FUNNY. he’s so immature. like im actually convinced that merlin used to fantasize about revealing his magic to arthur in some grand, over dramatic sacrifice, and the main point of the fantasy was arthur crying over merlin’s dead (preferably injured but thinking he’s dead) body and lamenting how stupid he was for never realizing how awesome (and good-looking) merlin was, and could merlin forgive him? gaius is looking at this boy daydreaming like bsffr rn

I never know if I should recommend this series or mind my own business because, you know, ✨trauma✨

gravity falls fans:

The reason Derek is Stiles’ alpha is because he’s the only one that has an equal based relationship. Stiles, while he does help and care about Derek, doesn’t have to parent him. Unlike scott or his father. Because of this when stiles pushes and Derek pushes right back and puts him in his place he actually respects it instead of ignoring it.

There is an amount of respect between the two and unspoken acknowledgement about how they are very similar and different from the pack. (I.e responsibilities, loss, guilt over “killing” family members, morals). Derek is one of the only “authority” that we see stiles respect and works with. (Alpha pack) He ignores most adults reprimands and boundaries.

Stiles also trust Derek to take into account what he ‘feels’ and thinks. (Jennifer)

This is also why many people probably headcannon him as “pack mom”. He is equal to Derek and is also an ‘authority’ among his friend groups

Merlin grabbed the sword and stabbed Morgana without hesitation. I never find this cruelty in Merlin except in one case, which is when Arthur is on the other side. He passed by her and never looked back and went running to Arthur. how he saw Mordred's body and passed over it as if it was never there to reach for Arthur, how he killed Agravine because Arthur wouldn't, and Merlin wanted Arthur to reach safety. It didn't matter who they were, It didn't matter what they were capable of doing, That's what Merlin thought, don't you ever come between me and Arthur.
