asks/submissions open!

Rules, DNI, Intro, & More!

This is a โ€œx culture isโ€ blog for all neurodivergent folks. So anyone with autism, ADHD, PTSD, dyspraxia, dyslexia, touretteโ€™s, personality disorders, or any other mental illness, psychological/neurological condition, or non-neurotypical neurotype! This includes self-DX folk as well. This was inspired by all the other โ€œx culture isโ€ blogs out there!

This blog is run by Mod Emri (She/They), Mod Aki (He/Him), Mod Milo (they/he/it) and formally Mod Corvid (They&/Them&) and Mod Theseus (voi/voice)!! Queue is currently posting 11 times a day. Asks are always appreciated.

Submission Rules

  • Please keep your asks to nd culture submissions only, or at the very least being neurodivergent related!! Weโ€™d also appreciate it if you didnโ€™t ask for advice as weโ€™re not able to provide help in that department.
  • Start submissions with โ€œneurodivergent culture isโ€ or some variation (โ€autism culture is,โ€ โ€œdyspraxia culture is,โ€ โ€œPTSD culture is,โ€ etc.) Asks will be deleted if they donโ€™t follow this.
  • Keep all fandom/shipping/character talk vague. We do not know every fandom and may not feel comfortable handling specific fandom or media related submissions.
  • Try to keep your asks free of discourse, we want this to be as positive a place as possible! (Vagueing about your own struggles or life is fine, though.)
  • Please try to use tone tags if relevant!

DNI

  • TERFs
  • transmeds
  • MAPs/NOMAPs
  • all queerphobes, including a-spec exclusionists, transphobes, biphobes, panphobes, etc.
  • Those who believe in cluster B abuse (narcissistic/borderline/anti-social/histrionic)
  • discourse focused/centered blogs
  • blogs with minors in their DNI/NSFW blogs
  • supporters of Autism Speaks

We will try to tag everything appropriately, but please let us know if you want anything tagged that we have not been tagging or forgot to tag! (Things we currently try to tag for.)

If you would like to ask us any questions, please read our FAQ first! Itโ€™s underneath the cut. Any questions that have already been answered in our FAQ will be deleted and ignored.

My brain when I'm driving: omg there's so many things i'd love to do right now, let's brainstorm ideas that you can't write down because you're driving and get excited about an activity you haven't touched in months and

My brain when I actually try to do those things: you want me??? to work???????? i'm sorry i can't do that

ND culture is now and again being left out and being excluded but a lot of people in the social group so believe in a thing (usually benign) and I do not and can't make myself believe to keep the peace or make more friends or get like popular. Just not good for my mental health but some things i can't force myself into doing things and believing and have to come to it in my own time, if at all. Sometimes I literally can't 'mask' to fit in. it sucks so much but sometimes I just can't.

dermatillomania culture is being told โ€œstop picking at your skin/biting your nails!โ€ then saying to them well i canโ€™t stop, then being told โ€œwhy not?โ€ then wanting to explain โ€œitโ€™s because i have a mental disorder that literally gives me the uncontrollable urge to do so! if i wanted to stop i would have stopped a long time ago!โ€

ND culture is skirting carefully past content from my prior hyperfixations because even if I still love them, I don't really want them to suck me back in and away from my current one

chromesthesia culture is looking at a music video and thinking it sounds like the color it shows then getting confused when you listen to it and it sounds nothing like the colors in the video

ND (dyslexia, autism, and DID) culture is getting really confused when people bring up typing quirks. Like, yeah, I get it messes with screen readers, but so do emojis and I never see anyone harping on those? It seems like it's only when systems have typing quirks people really get mad about it and it's frustrating bc we try not to even bring out those alters, even though we translate it first. Because apparently that's not okay either?

Idk, it seems like a double standard. Neurotypicals use things that fuck with screen readers all the time and no one shits on them for it, but as soon as a neurodivergent does it, it's a problem ๐Ÿ˜’
