Artists Notes from Last week!
Bobbys mom approaching is rather ominous isn’t it? I see her as a very straightforward character who only says what she thinks is necessary without any fluff, and that translates into weird interactions like this. The sketch for this page, despite only being the size of my thumb is one of my favorites from the 10 page set it was drawn with.
Finally the plot is moving! Otherwise I don’t actually have much on this page, it was a very quick one to make. But… I will give you the sketches of the last ten pages here, as a treat. There a standard size eraser in the photo so you can get an idea of how big each of these are. (Rest of notes for this post below the image)
This is from a different sketching set than all of the previous pages of this chapter, and I’m so glad it isn’t obvious. (Would you have known if I hadn’t just told you?) Basically what that means is that it was planned out later than the others, about a week to be precise, and having multiple groups of pages is not actually something I’ve done before for this comic. Usually I do a base amount and then add on however many go over that. (It usually isn’t enough for even half of a second set.) This Chapter, which already has all of its sketches done for all of its pages has a total of 4 groups, totaling 36 pages and requiring a new level of oversight on my part. Unfortunately this set had one error I didn’t catch until I posted these pages. There are supposed to be 4 more umbrellas in that bin, not just Bobby’s. I forgot about them between batches!
No real notes on this one except for the missing umbrellas. Except for the fact that Bobby looks especially like a tiny Hatsune Miku in the sketch of this page.
Establishes the base lighting for the rest of this chapter. That’s right, the blue-grey tones are here to stay till the end of April! (Other than one scene but shhhhh you didn’t hear that from me) The True Tones provided by the artificial light in the flower shop are no more, and natural lighting has come into play. It’s also only going to get darker from here as Bobby in this scene is still somewhere with streetlights. In other notes getting Bobby’s phone screen to illuminate her hand in screen tones was difficult because my drawing program is very particular about how screen tones function. I figured it out in the end (and how to replicate it if need be)
That’s all for this one, expect the one for today’s post sometime mid- week as I catch up on these!
