Oh do I have a STORY for this one.

The year is 2014 at around 8pm. I, 15 (who used to get mistaken for 20) and my friend, 19 (who still, ten years later, gets mistaken for 12) are on a mission to find a movie at a now-defunct movie rental store (not that one.)

The movie is Tales from the Earthsea. My friend is taking me through watching every Ghibli movie, because I hadn't seen them. We don't fully expect to actually find this one, but AHA, WE DO. The store has it and we bring it up to buy it.

We're talking about whatever to each other, enjoying our outing and entirely unaware of anything being off as our movie is rung up. But the cashier is eyeing us, warily, looking between both of us before she asks her question, which neither of us notice until she does.

"Are either of you over the age of 13?"

She's... joking, right? Sure, he looks 12, but I at the very least definitely look 15, I'm sure, and who gets carded for non-17+ content anyway? This is not how the script is supposed to go. We aren't used to buying things that involve carding. My friend slowly, confusedly, responds with "I'm 19...?" To which the cashier gives him a look which says she very much doesn't believe him. "I'm 15." I add, helpfully. I get the look.

My friend offers his driver's license. The cashier holds onto it and stares at it, very intently, for a very long time. She doesn't believe it's real, but she also can't find anything wrong with it to prove that, so she begrudgingly gives it back and allows us to buy our PG-13 movie.

So, FYI you guys, sometimes if you go to your favorite writers and flail at them a lot about how much you love their fics with lots of specific examples, they will let you read thousands of words of their unpublished WIPs and you can flail even more. Also sometimes after that you get to be friends, too, and help them come up with ideas. And vice versa! This is pretty much the best thing in the world and it is called fandom.

So happy to reveal my pieces for the Transformers Reverse Mini Bang 2024 ! I got to work with the amazing @neonhoneycomb who ran with my idea, put in SO MUCH work and made SUCH A WONDERFUL FIC go check it out HERE !

do you ever think about how sometimes it just... takes one random message? and suddenly you find yourself with a best friend or in constant conversation with someone who lives on the other side of the world but is just as much of a freak as you are or maybe you find yourself in love with someone without a last name but with so much kindness and affection in their words and presence. crazy how life and love and friendship just happen

it’s easy to forget, so I’ll remind y’all: you can make fantasy versions of anything. yes even things you might not think about. like soil types. I am thinking of fantasy soil types right now

it's kinda comforting to me when my friends are a little annoying or longwinded or abrasive or tired and inarticulate, or they don't do the exact politest thing in every interaction, and stuff, because I know I'm sometimes annoying, or take up a more than my share of conversational space, or forget to ask them questions, etc etc, and... like, I'm always working to be nice to my friends and to get better and better at friend-ing, but it just makes me feel more human about it :}

anyway I love you friends plz know I'm not counting, in fact I feel great affection toward you even (especially) when conversations go less than Perfectly Ideal

I'm not proud to say it but this line from a 60 year old detective novel made me re-think some things about friendship

Now I want to read the detective novel.
