Hi, first of all I want to say that I love your art.
Second, I have a question. Do you usually hollow the limbs too of your sculpture to maintain the average half inch thickness?
Thank you! Yep most pieces I make have to be hollowed out entirely unless they are really small, can fit in the palm of my hand.
It depends on how big the piece is, how heavy you want it to be etc. But a half inch thickness is what I shoot for on average with any sculpture near loaf of bread size.
Apologies for not having much to post at the moment yall- its been a bit tough dealing with some major plumbing issues in our new house, but things are finally looking up and we are getting to settle in a bit :)
I am essentially on hiatus until we can *actually* work on something besides our house. But we have begun the process to fix a roof sag + other issues with the studio space. It's coming together, but I likely won't be anything close to working with clay until late fall.
It is what it is! I'm still getting things together to start offering prints of my photos, hopefully by mid August ๐ anyhow thanks for your patience guys. I hate to be inactive but it's taking all my energy just to do renovations + work on the side to get by.
I wanna start off by saying that youโre an amazing sculptor and artist! Went back through your blog and was gushing over all your work! Also noticed youโve done a lot of fish pieces in the past. So I was wondering, which do you prefer to create: fish or furry animals (like dogs and bears)?
Thank you!! That is a tough question, though I have been drawing animals (mammals mostly) pretty much since I could. I've loved fish ever since going fishing with my dad at about 3 yrs old, but I never thought to make art about them until experimenting while studying ceramics in college a few years ago.
TLDR is I love them both too much to choose, but I tend to think more about mammals in fall/winter (we hunt/trap for furs and meat all through this time), and spring/summer is fishing time so they are on my brain more during the warm months. Furry mammals are def my comfort zone tho.
I have been thinking making a FAQ page on my site might be nice for yall. I would like to answer the most common questions I get about my studio/materials/methods/me(?) there. Is that something yall would like?
A lot of people ghost me after I answer their questions so it saves me AND yall time too :) it will probably also include a detailed section explaining how ceramic (earth) clay is different from sculpey/polymer/air dry/oven/oil clays, with pros and cons.
sorry for slow posting lately y'all- interior renovations for the house has been a bigger project than expected (nothing like thousands of $$$ of plumbing work...and no hot water for the past month) so it's been a lot to deal with, frankly. But progress is being made!
I am hoping to start the cleanup and repairs for the garage/studio next week, and have some prints ready to drop as well! Stay tuned!

Would you ever consider selling prints of photos of your work? Your sculptures are gorgeous and speak to me strongly and I'd love to have prints of them in my home!
Yes!! I am working on visiting the print shops around my new town so I can figure out who I'd like to source prints from.
If y'all have any particular pieces I have made you want prints of, please please let me know so I can get them printed :) thank you!!
Hiiiii first of all i really love your art, you are a big inspiration of mine I wanted to ask you, what do you use to paint your sculptures?
Thank you!!! Glad I can inspire :) the majority of my work is painted/glazed with amaco brand underglazes + I have a handful of traditional glassy glazes that I sometimes use too, I can get into specifics if you or anyone else is curious!
Mayco underglaze is another good brand, I prefer amaco since they have brighter colors which stay more saturated at higher firing temperatures + have a little bit better consistency for painting (to me!) but mayco is cheaper and nearly just as good.
