I think every computer user needs to read this because holy fucking shit this is fucking horrible.

So Windows has a new feature incoming called Recall where your computer will first, monitor everything you do with screenshots every couple of seconds and "process that" with an AI.

Hey, errrr, fuck no? This isn't merely because AI is really energy intensive to the point that it causes environmental damage. This is because it's basically surveilling what you are doing on your fucking desktop.

This AI is not going to be on your desktop, like all AI, it's going to be done on another server, "in the cloud" to be precise, so all those data and screenshot? They're going to go off to Microsoft. Microsoft are going to be monitoring what you do on your own computer.

Now of course Microsoft are going to be all "oooh, it's okay, we'll keep your data safe". They won't. Let me just remind you that evidence given over from Facebook has been used to prosecute a mother and daughter for an "illegal abortion", Microsoft will likely do the same.

And before someone goes "durrr, nuthin' to fear, nuthin to hide", let me remind you that you can be doing completely legal and righteous acts and still have the police on your arse. Are you an activist? Don't even need to be a hackivist, you can just be very vocal about something concerning and have the fucking police on your arse. They did this with environmental protesters in the UK. The culture war against transgender people looks likely to be heading in a direction wherein people looking for information on transgender people or help transitioning will be tracked down too. You have plenty to hide from the government, including your opinions and ideas.

Again, look into backing up your shit and switching to Linux Mint or Ubuntu to get away from Microsoft doing this shit.

there are multiple options here depending on how comfortable you are digging into your computer's registry. You can either simply disable it surface level through settings or excise it entirely from the system registry

reblogging again as a cautionary tale to please PLEASE fucking make a system restore point before you do anything. i consider myself tech savvy and still nearly bricked my computer. and make sure you know how to access safe mode

Are you with me?

Spread the word.

I really just want to hit people who have Republicans Reps/Senators over and over again until it sets in: Hound them constantly. Trump answers to nobody, but your reps do have to answer to their constituents. Get a group together and dedicate time to calling their offices. Trump freezing federal grants and loans? The purse is the Congress's turf. Demand your Republican Rep/Senator(s) explain why they think cancer funding should be stopped.

Don't take your boot off their necks. Trump is unreachable, but your Republican rep is not. Put their office numbers in your phone and make it a weekly habit to call them.

2025 is the year we make the Congress more important than the president.

A heads up to anyone living in Oklahoma.

Oklahoma Senator Dusty Deevers is set to introduce a law to the Oklahoma State Senate, SB 593, which will not only increase punishment for possession of CSAM (Child Sexual Exploitation Material), but outlaw and criminalize ALL forms of pornography and it's creation, distribution, and possession. Whether it be written, auditory, or visual.

This bill is not only a massive breach of First Amendment rights of adults to access things, but also a danger to any adults who wish to access these problems. As Senator Deevers has especially cited that any educators or librarians who look at such should be classified as sex offenders.

This comes with a slew of other bills which Senator Deevers claims are to help "restore moral sanity in Oklahoma".

SB 456: The Abolition of Abortion Act - Outlaws the use of self administered abortion medication and effectively “declares that life begins at conception and ensures that no person may lawfully terminate the life of a child in the womb."

SB 550: Classifies Drag Queen Story Hour as a cabaret performance to effectively ban the nonsexual presentation of drag queens near children.

SB 228: The Covenant Marriage Act - Offers a $2,500 tax credit to Oklahoma couples who consent to a "covenant marriage" in which they waive any right to divorce except under "cases of abuse, adultery, or abandonment".

SB 829: Ends Oklahoma no fault divorce by removing "incompatability" as a reason for divorce. If signed into law it would only allow divorces in the event of "abandonment, gross neglect, extreme cruelty, habitual drunkenness, insanity for a period of five years, adultery, unknown pregnancy and fraudulent contract."

SB 329: The Promote Child Thriving Act - Creates a $500 child tax credit contingent upon it being filed for by a mother and father filing jointly (exclusion of single parents and gay couples). And increases that to $1000 for children born after the marriage of the parents, which can exclude those in non traditional familial groups and children born from wedlock.

All of these bills echo heavily the Project 2025 playbook and should be fought against swiftly and firmly. As if they show they can be passed here, these ideas could spread to other states as well.

Call your reps, spread the word. And do not let the ideals of a christo-authoritarian take control over the state of Oklahoma without a fight.

Took this from Instagram because this is urgent US folks.

You need to call and email your reps no matter if you live in a red or blue state. This cannot be allowed to pass.

It will prevent anyone who has ever changed their name from voting (including their last name)

Here is an article explaining the ambiguous language of the bill how it’s intention is to strip millions of Americans their right to vote

& how its republicans top priority to get passed

Spread this far- this could end voting rights for hundreds of millions of Americans

Keep sharing this folks. & take action. This is a major bill that has republican’s support. It is essentially the reversal of the 19th amendment using citizenship as a scapegoat

There will be a lot of distractions preventing folks from focusing on this bill. Because this is the one that will bring democracy down.

Reminder that if you’re in the US you should get in the habit of calling your representatives! It’s super easy to find them here: https://www.congress.gov/members/find-your-member

If you need something else to bring up on the call, as of this week approximately 200,000 federal employees have been let go via Musk’s spearheading, so I’d encourage bringing that one up as well

This site lets you check the status of your ballot. DO IT, regardless of how you voted.

There are record numbers of ballot challenges and "invalid" ballots. You have the right to cure your ballot.

Even if it won't change the outcome of the Presidential race, the down-ballot items still matter.

And even if it won't change the outcome of any race, YOUR VOTE MATTERS. Make sure it counts.

Banging on the walls chanting "OPEN ENROLLMENT FOR ACA THRU JAN 15" like some deranged town crier. Election results aside, you have options to access healthcare as a RIGHT through the ACA. NO one can dismantle the Affordable Care Act in less than 4 years, so SIGN UP! GET YOUR CARE! USE THE SYSTEM!

You have options RIGHT NOW that will be stable thru the next year, the one after that, and I'd be shocked to see them shrink even the year after that. That means RIGHT NOW you can get signed up for next year to gain 100% covered preventative care (your annual check ups, pap smears, dental cleaning, vision check). You have the option to get checked and screened as you need, do NOT be dissuaded from exploring ACA choices. They are SOLID, LEGISLATED, and WORK BEST WHEN PEOPLE USE THEM.

I can't change most things around me, BUT I CAN tell everyone I know that THEY CAN GET LIFE SAVING CARE. THEY CAN GET PRESCRIPTIONS. THEY CAN GET PREGNANCY CARE. THEY CAN GET CANCER CARE. AND THEY WILL GET THAT CARE!!!!!!

SIGN UP BY DECEMBER 15, 2024 FOR COVERAGE TO BEGIN ON JANUARY 1, 2025. ENROLLMENT AFTER 12/15/24 WILL HAVE COVERAGE BEGINNING FEBRUARY 1, 2025.

My fellow Americans

Take advantage of what our civil servants have built for you and spread the word.

Hi, sorry if this comes out of nowhere but some time ago I ordered the anniversary pin from moth parfait. Since then I can't enter the site anymore, not even to check my order situation (it always sends me to a work in progress page). I was hoping to get my order in on time for Christmas. Are there any news I didn't know about?

hello,

we sent out an email to all store customers a few weeks ago, sorry to hear you didn't receive it!

we've been dealing with some hiccups with our pin supplier in regards to enamel color and quality, but it's mostly resolved by now and we'll hopefully get our full order in soon. It should be ready for Christmas with some time to spare, thank you again for your patience!

Please don't tune out when you get to the non-partisan section of your ballot this November. First off, where state Supreme Court justices are elected, Republicans are trying their darndest to elect candidates who will destroy reproductive freedom, gut voting rights, and do everything in their power to give "contested" elections to Republicans. Contrast Wisconsin electing a justice in 2023 who helped rule two partisan gerrymanders unconstitutional, versus North Carolina electing a conservative majority in 2022, who upheld a racist voter ID law and a partisan gerrymander that liberal justices had previously struck down both of.

Second, local judicial offices will make infinitely more of an impact on your community than a divided state or federal legislature will. District and circuit courts, especially, are where criminalization of homelessness and poverty play out, and where electing a progressive judge with a commitment to criminal justice reform can make an immediate difference in people's lives.

It's a premier example of buying people time, and doing profound-short-term good, while we work to eventually change the system. You might not think there will be any such progressive justices running in your district, but you won't know unless you do your research. (More on "research" in a moment.)

The candidates you elect to your non-partisan city council will determine whether those laws criminalizing homelessness get passed, how many blank checks the police get to surveil and oppress, and whether lifesaving harm reduction programs, like needle exchanges and even fentanyl test strips, are legal in your municipality. Your non-partisan school board might need your vote to fend off Moms for Liberty candidates and their ilk, who want to ban every book with a queer person or acknowledgement of racism in it.

Of course, this begs the question — if these candidates are non-partisan, and often hyper-local, then how do I research them? There's so much less information and press about them, so how do I make an informed decision?

I'm not an expert, myself. But I do think/hope I have enough tips to consist of a useful conclusion to this post:

  1. Plan ahead. If you vote in person, figure out what's on your ballot before you show up and get jumpscared by names you don't know. Find out what's on your ballot beforehand, and bring notes with you when you vote. Your city website should have a sample ballot, and if they drop the ball, go to Ballotpedia.
  2. Ballotpedia in general, speaking of which. Candidates often answer Ballotpedia's interviews, and if you're lucky, you'll also get all the dirt on who's donating to their campaign.
  3. Check endorsements. Usually candidates are very vocal about these on their websites. If local/state progressive leaders and a couple unions (not counting police unions lol) are endorsing a candidate, then that's not the end of my personal research process per se, but it usually speeds things up.
  4. Check the back of the ballot. That's where non-partisan races usually bleed over to. This is the other reason why notes are helpful, because they can confirm you're not missing anything.

Also check in with the League of Women Voters, who send all the candidates questions that are theoretically non partisan (but which tend to reveal partisan affiliations in the response). They run Vote411, where they aggregate all the information they get into a nice little voting guide with all the candidates' answers arranged neatly there for you so you can peruse and make up your mind.

Seriously, if you aren't using Vote411 as part of your decision-making process for local elections, you should start! The candidates do sometimes also ignore them, but they're really good at bothering everyone for information and getting results. And the LWV are very, very thorough.
