In general, Shadow is pretty much always gay in my fics but Sonic can be gay, pan, or bi. You're right though, I often headcanon Shadow as demi 🖤❤️

Ahhhhhh first off thank you 🥰🙏!!! Second, I don't know 😅 I know that's super unhelpful, Im so sorry! I don't follow any certain process, I just feel what they're feeling in that moment? I write from a lot of personal experience (I'm well into my thirties so lots of life lol) and I'm also an empath. I'm a Scorpio to boot 😂 Feels are just very much my thing. I guess if I had any advice, it's to take a second and imagine you're them, whoever your voice is. Imagine you're in their situation and examine how it makes you feel. Sit with it for a bit, let it really soak in and then write.

As a side note there's nothing wrong with more words for conveying your point. Everyone does it differently, doesn't mean you don't get to the same place 😉

This fic deserves SO MUCH LOVE simply for the amount of effort and time that was spent researching Roman history and gladiators. The author went above and beyond to depict time appropriate settings, clothing, terms, you name it. This is very clearly a labor of love and it shows. Add on that Knife's prose is damn near poetic at times and the plot leaves you on the edge of your seat and you've got a flipping entertaining and enthralling as hell story 🙌
