Begging for an explanation

Ok so in Caves of Qud, every npc has a faction it belongs to: these range from factions for specific villages or cults to things like Oozes, Baboons, and Robots. Important NPCS all have specific relationships to other factions; a character might be Hated by Baboons, for instance, or Loved by Dogs, etcetera. Take this guy, for example:

Most characters in the starting town of Joppa, which the tutorial has you go to, belong to the Villagers of Joppa faction, which has two important NPCS: the village elder (the guy above), and the head farmer, Mehmet. Mehmet is important to both the tutorial and to most runs in general bc he gives out a quest that's kind of the bread-and-butter quest of the early game.

The village protector, Warden Yrame, however, doesn't belong to the Villagers of Joppa faction- she belongs to the Fellowship of Wardens. It is entirely possible for Mehmet to spawn as being hated or despised by this faction, and, in either case, because he's in line of sight of Yrame, the moment you walk into the village in an instance of the game where this is the case, she will immediately freeze him to death with ice beams and then proceed to get into a bloody fight with the whole town, after every other farmer predictably gets mad about this.

I just discovered two of the people on the campaign I created were murdered. One of them was a child.
