Detroit Evolution Homecoming- Day 1 Lazzo
I don't have the time or energy right now to be making new art so I thought it could be fun to look back at my various custom funko pops I've made for DE and DA, especially because I haven't shared the figures I made to give away during the octopunk London event to tumblr before. And to take this time to go into a bit more detail about the design choices I made for each one.
One of my favourite parts of making my original Lazzo pop (left) was his box of junk, the tiny details of Ada's cloak, the hand, there's even even tiny bag of cheetos in there, were so much fun but when it came to making the figure to give to JJ (right) I decided to keep things much more simple.
I did this for a couple of reasons the main one being that I wanted the funko pops I was giving away to be more sturdy than the ones I made for myself, custom funko pops are more fragile than normal pop figures, the paint can chip or the clay could break if it is dropped and I just wanted to take as few risks possible.
I spent a long time looking for the correct base figure so I didn't have to adjust the position of any of the limbs and ensuring those joints were much more secure.
The second reason was that I wanted to make the funko pops boxes, which was a challenge in itself but well worth it in the end for the additional protection the box provides but also because I think they gave the figures a much more authentic and finished look.
I honestly couldn't be happier with both iterations of Lazzo and yes both feather boa’s glow in the dark.
