why don't people in zombie apocalypse stories ever just wear suits of armor? you think any zombie is gonna get their shitty rotting jaws through this?
I'm gonna rip and tear my way through the zombie apocalypse completely unharmed because none of the undead hoards will be able to get through my plate mail
everyone else is like "oh we gotta stay inside the most secure places possible and never leave" and I'll be storming through the wastelands in my bloodstained suit of armor, blasting the Doom (2016) OST and plowing my way through waves of the undead. one of them tries to bite me but his shitty rotting teeth don't even leave a dent in my armor before I turn his head into paste. I'll be unstoppable until I die of dehydration or something like an idiot
this goes along with my other pet peeve about zombie apocalypse stories, namely: why does no one ever think to ride a bike?
bikes are quiet- if the zombies react to loud noises, they won’t hear you on a bike the way they might hear you in a car. bikes don’t need gas, meaning you won’t be stranded if you run out. bikes are much, much easier to maintain than a car- there’s no computer that can short out, no fiddly engine bits that could kill you if you mess with them wrong. you can learn how to maintain a bike with a couple weeks’ worth of classes. almost every adult knows how to ride a bike, and without cars on the road, it’d be much safer to do.
what i’m saying is
American author Mark Twain (b. 1835) lurches from his grave only to give you a massive thumbs up and die again
Mark Twain essentially invented the genre of a bystander sent into a time-travel sci-fi plot just to get someone to draw this image for him. And today we can simply search for such a picture. It is a time of wonders
Is there a line or do I need to take a number?
I watched all the Matrix movies on Saturday with some friends and do you think that after the machines agreed to free people from the matrix there were concerted campaigns to ‘win’ people over? Frankly, I think the machines would have an easier time.
Zion: We have big ass cave rave/orgies and an anarchist collective.
Machines: We have tasty wheat and steaks.
Zion: We, uh, we have mechs and hover ships
Machines: If you want rave/orgies have you seen our underground death metal dungeons?
Zion: we, uh, we are in the real world!
Machines: We can program cake to make you orgasm, you can eat as much as you want and not get fat.
i kind of sympathize with Sadeas re: Dalinar in Way of Kings. if I knew a guy who was basically like a rabid dog barely contained on a leash back when we were launching a military coup together and he had a kill count of like 999999999 civilians and then he had a complete mental breakdown and then came back from it like "hey I'm Catholic now and by the way God Is Speaking To Me and told me the apocalypse is coming" well i probably wouldn't want that guy in charge of anything either. to be honest
Yeah Sadeas was a master at the game but didn’t realize that the rules were changing. But then, neither do we.
when I look at western media depictions of Chinese things I always look for gay lions
so lion statues have a male and female lion pair, male lions have a ball to play with and lionesses have a little baby to take care of (lion patriarchy)
Lot of westerners don't know this so they accidentally draw Gay Lions
look at them. love wins
Redeeming cultural ignorance
When Everything Everywhere All at Once said “The only thing I do know is that we have to be kind. Please, be kind, especially when we don’t know what’s going on"
When the Good Place said “Why choose to be good every day when there is no guaranteed reward now or in the afterlife… I argue that we choose to be good because of our bonds with other people and our innate desire to treat them with dignity. Simply put, we are not in this alone.”
When Jean-Paul Sartre said ”‘Hell is other people’ is only one side of the coin. The other side, which no one seems to mention, is also ‘Heaven is each other’. Hell is separateness, uncommunicability, self-centeredness, lust for power, for riches, for fame. Heaven on the other hand is very simple, and very hard: caring about your fellow beings.“
We are all constantly building the world we live in together. Humans shape reality but it is a group power, not an individual one.
Obsessed with the mental image of Vasher having war flashbacks of all the situations™️ he's ever faced in his life and going "no Adolin we absolutely need to account for a scenario in which you're fighting on a literal tightrope wearing nothing but sweatpants, brids flying all around you, and 15 enemies charging at you"
I'm almost done with Wind and Truth, and wanted to animate just a tiny section of my favorite scene!
As I saw it in my mind
what if things happen between chana and kaladin and when they return shallan is like YOU FUCKED MY MOM??? because kaladin has a type
Well the presents are all unwrapped, the feast is over, all the treats have been eaten, the friends have bidden farewell, the house is quiet, the lights are dim and the kitchen is finally clean. Another successful Christmas, where the coldest and darkest days of the year have been redeemed and made the brightest and warmest. I miss you, think of you often and hope you had a wonderful Christmas full of warmth, light and hope for the future. Love you and Merry Christmas
Imagine when Kaladin finds out Chana is Shallan’s mom and he tries to apologize for killing her son, crying and shaking- then she finds out it was Helaran who died and she’s like “Oh- that one. Don’t worry about it, girl 😂😂😂”
And then Kaladin finds out Kalak is Restares and has to ask what the hell he said to Amaram that convinced him to brand Kaladin and kill his remaining squad
When will someone gently take all the internet food bloggers by the shoulders, look into their eyes, and explain that coconut milk is not a neutral-flavored dairy substitute
To be clear this is not me being a coconut hater. This is me saying that making coconut-flavored garlic & spinach & artichoke dip is, at minimum, an unusual choice
I know I’m being an insufferable worldbuilding nerd here, but my basic metric for evaluating media with very inhuman protagonists is “how easily can one offer a complete and coherent account of this media’s plot without ever mentioning the fact that the protagonist is, for example, a talking car?”. The harder it is, the higher it scores.
@hewwbwazew I would LOVE to read this holy shit
@territorialoak I hope you don’t mind me adding your tags here, that story is just too good and I’m Obsessed
also @gilgamemesh I feel like this is your vibe too
That infamous prison escape.
Actually "Elhokar did nothing wrong" and "Moash was right to kill him" are both very lukewarm takes that don't do either character justice. It's possible to hold several truths at the same time like 1. Elhokar did some really fucked up things 2. He was also trying really hard, growing and learning to do better 3. Moash was RIGHT to be angry and want justice 4. Taking justice into his own hands is still wrong, and his actions being *understandable* doesn't make then *justifiable* 5. "Revenge only leads to more violence" is like one of the key themes of the series, with Elhokar's revenge war at the shattered plains being just another good example of that 6. Killing Elhokar actually didn't bring Moash any peace and was bad for his mental wellbeing and relationships And most importantly 7. The circumstances for both of these characters are very complicated and not morally black and white, both of them are simultaneously a product of their surroundings and life histories AS WELL AS individuals with free choice who should be held accountable. There's a lot of parallels to be found between them (the revenge theme for starters, but also lying to oneself and others, struggling with taking responsibility over one's actions, a desperate need for love and appreciation that fails to come across in a productive way, etc etc). And that imo is much more interesting to think about than "who was right"
