Romeo + Juliet (1996) dir. Baz Luhrmann
Oh my god those are heelys
I want people to remember that, iirc, this is still considered the most faithful movie version of Romeo and Juliet
i can't even tell you how many times i've rewound this scene just to really take in their smiles when they look at each other… it makes me wanna sob. they're so in love it actually hurts. so, i slowed it down. and now, i’m stuck here forever 😭😭
for the gif enjoyers
This bit just kills me. The smiles are so warm and good and clearly full of old love, and the whole wordless interaction from Rio's little turn away (which she seems to do to some degree whenever Agatha makes her deeply amused/laugh) to Agatha's almost conspiratorial hint of a lean in is freighted with the energy of the old married couple these characters are. It helps of course that they are played by two performers who are long-time friends with amazing chemistry and very deep wells of talent, but just...
Ugh. This tiny moment was so much. It showed so much. Gave so much.
I'm a simple person. I don't need much in my life. But what I desperately want is these characters back one day, maybe playing out some canon backstory.
overthinking should at least burn calories
“We wanted to create a language that is aesthetically interesting,” says production designer Patrice Vermette. “But it needed to be alien to our civilization, alien to our technology, alien to everything our mind knows. When Louise first sees the language, you don’t want to give it away to the audience that it’s a language.”
Well, then, dear saint, let lips do what hands do. They pray, grant thou, lest faith turn to despair.
