How did I not see this ohhh my god
UHM WELL.... YES I CAN GIVE YOU MY PIG FUN FACTS!!! THANK YOU SO SO MUCH FOR ASKING!!!!!
Here's 10 fun facts about pigs!!!!
1. Pigs don't technically have fur, pigs have hair! Or bristles. There isn't any concrete difference between hair and fur though, secondary fun fact is fur and hair are basically the same thing! We call it fur on pigs (as well as horses and other cattle) because of the coarser and longer strands. I don't fight on it though it's a lot of language semantics
2. Speaking of their hair, it's been used to make paint brushes for hundreds of years because of its stiffness, flexibility, and ability to hold paint well! They're still used in hairbrushes and polishing brushes as well today
3. The term "sweating like a pig" is actually INACCURATE to pigs because pigs barely sweat at all! Some people think they have no sweat glands on the other hand but that is also WRONG! They simply don't have many sweat glands and don't sweat a lot (also most of these sweat glands are on their noses). This is why pigs wallow in mud; for the most part it's to help with thermoregulation! They also pant like dogs sometimes
4. The notion that pigs are dirty creatures but that's ALSO NOT TRUE! When they actually have the resources to do so they build tidy little nests for themselves and their piglets, and wild pigs do this all the time! They also keep their "toilet" areas in designated spaces far from where they stay.
5. Some pigs have these things called wattles on their jowls! They're these bits of skin that have seemingly no purpose at all. They're most common in red wattle hogs (who would've thought) and kunekune pigs from what I've seen
Silly little hotdogs.....
6. Pigs are one of the smartest animals in the world! Their intelligence is comparable to that of a 3 year old. Also they can game. Which is pretty swaggy
7. In the wild they're more active at dawn and dusk and can even be somewhat nocturnal!
8. Both males and females have tusks, but most females shorter or smaller ones that don't grow long enough to stick out of their mouths
9. Pigs have a bunch of distinct grunts and squeals they use to communicate with each other, around 20 of which are identified
10. A pig's sense of smell is about 2'000 times more sensitive than a human's!
Alright, there you have it! I hope you've learned something else about pigs today :3
