i think pascal offered to help nervous often. maybe too often, because he wanted to feel useful, to feel like he can fix things and above all - he just cared. nervous though would refuse it, whether it was the "comfort" of what he grew used to with the beakers or just not wanting to be too much of a burden

so i guess seeing the effect of beakers final experiment made pascal feel anything but useful. and i think of it sometimes
