Cleavers are covered with tiny prickers that catch and hold the fluff, or wool or feathers if those are one's insulating materials, in place.
In the old days the People used cattail heads to insulate the winter wigwam. A winter wigwam is made with two walls, a snug, waterproof bark covering on the outside and another on the inside. In the space between the two walls one put in cattail heads. When they fluffed out on their own as they dried, they created an insulation that would keep the family warm all through the coldest winter.
