I’ve been watching project runway (I always have a silly little show to fall asleep to so I don’t get captured by the Thoughts) and I’ve found every season (I’m on season 5 now) my faves that design out of-the-box, weird lil garments get eliminated first/near the beginning of the show. Which sucks because I think it is the people that make the show interesting for me, and like seeing the people’s personalities come out in the clothes, even if not everyone (or anyone) would wear them. (And I guess i like people who seem to have done some self-reflection and aren’t satisfied with merely conforming to societal ideals/fashion.) To some extent, fashion is about art (forming a dialectic w practicality I suppose). So it seems silly to me that all of the winning outfits are fairly conventional with a little twist. Even, to some extent, the avant-garde. Idk I guess i find it disappointing that it’s about what is “in” and not about making art. Also I wish they had more time for each challenge (to see a better quality garment and also there’s no reason to induce that much stress!?) despite that it would cost more (at least in labor cost).

🌍✨ A Voice from Gaza: Fighting for Hope ❤️‍🩹

Hi, my name is Mosab , and I’m from Gaza. Life here has been harder than I could ever imagine, but today I’m sharing my story with hope in my heart, because your kindness has already given us so much strength.

This journey hasn’t been easy. The war has taken 25 family members from us—25 beautiful souls we loved deeply. Their laughter, their presence, their love… all of it is gone, leaving behind memories that are both precious and painful. Every day, I carry the weight of their loss, but I also carry their spirit, which gives me the strength to keep going.

Our Journey So Far

When I first reached out, I couldn’t have imagined we’d make it this far. Your support has been a light in these difficult times, and we are so deeply grateful for every single contribution.

But the road ahead is still challenging. Every day, we’re reminded of how much we’ve lost and how much we still need to rebuild.

Here’s what life in Gaza looks like for my family right now:

🏠 Safety: The uncertainty of tomorrow weighs heavily on us.

😢 Loss: The absence of the 25 family members we’ve lost is a pain we carry every moment.

💔 Dreams on Hold: The future feels so far away when survival takes all our strength.

How You Can Help Us Cross the Finish Line Even the smallest act of kindness can make a difference:

  • $5 may seem small, but for us, it’s a little relief, a moment of comfort, and a reminder that kindness still exists. ❤️
  • Can’t donate? Reblog this post to help us reach someone who can. Every share matters more than you know.

Why Your Support Matters Your kindness isn’t just about helping us meet our goal—it’s about reminding us that we’re not alone in this fight. It’s about hope. It’s about survival. And it’s about giving my family a chance to rebuild our lives, even in the face of unimaginable loss.

Thank you for helping us get this far. Your generosity and compassion have already brought us closer to a better tomorrow, and for that, I’m endlessly grateful.

With all my love and gratitude,

Mosab and Family ❤️

group living is beautiful and it’s about having a compost named marty and making dinner together and late night cups of tea on the couch with good books and sharing thrifted CDs or ones from the library and going to the park together in the morning before work and hugs when you get home and a household zine collection/obsession and sharing soaps and journals and making brownies together and dancing in the kitchen and planning a network of gardens between other people we know in the city and scrabble nights and teaching each other how to mend and cook and building each other nightstands and helping sew quilts and sliding books under bedroom doors and sticky notes with jokes and laughing in the sunshine outside of the laundry mat

I love this <3

Six free patterns for interlocking filet crochet patches to express solidarity with the people of Gaza/Palestine. Includes full documentation for the technique. Direct download here [PDF, 934kb] or download on Gumroad. Feel free to share or repost the PDF/images however you want.

I designed this motif to be specifically beginner-friendly (no nonsense in the first rows, no diagonals, fill stitches or knots), and the pattern itself has some extra annotations to help you get started. (There is also a video I did for another free motif here, if that would help you find your bearings).

lmk if you need help with the technique or my wackadoo notation.
