the fact is,” he said, “i liked you from the first moment I saw you, when you looked like you wanted to punch me in the face for just being alive. that probably says something dark about me.

David being subtly jealous is one of my favourite things in the Truly Devious books!

Homeboy came running as soon as he saw his girl dancing with someone else😭

ok so i just finished nine liars of the truly devious series and anyone wanna listen to me ramble?

so here’s some background~ read the main trilogy all together, loved it (had a single issue will elaborate below)

when box in the woods come out, read it and also liked it!

so here’s the thing, i may have some thoughts on the books, writing or plot wise but i don’t remember anything lmao just that i enjoyed them and that’s it

now nine liars~ this was a great book! im such a sucker for friends in academia so close together (iwwv anyone?) and wish we got more of the nine! someone here mentioned that it would’ve been better if they were less people and im inclined to agree, less people but more page time developing them as complex characters would’ve been so much better; which is why when the mystery was solved it fell flat! honestly out of all the books this was the easiest to predict and it didn’t even wrap up nicely!

now one thing that was done well was how stevie was treated like a normal teenager and it was even better than other ya books! she’s clumsy, always spilling things on her hoodies (lol this was the most relatable!) and also other stuff, her not being able to focus on stuff, feeling behind everyone, being kinda self centered and all!

also kinda love her friendship with nate more than janelle? like yes i love janelle but just- ahh it’s so good to see a healthy platonic relationship between stevie and nate!

now comes the bad part hehe ok ever since the og trilogy ive hated david like so bad and was so disappointed when in the end he ends up with her, so i was so happy when they broke up, but when izzy said he broke up because he thought she’s too good for him i was like whaa no don’t get together! this is exactly like when he was giving her mixed signals in the og trilogy but she still stuck with him? like please the mysteries are good on their own it doesn’t need romance!!

also one thing that was kinda weird was how easily they were able to go to the uk? like idk much about how things in the us work so maybe im thinking too much but there should’ve been some clear explanation as to how, like some random dude just provided accommodation to four students when they weren’t even sure why they wanted to come and all?

So the truly devious fandom is pretty small as we all know, but there are a few edits of Stevie bell on tik tok with like. Pictures from Pinterest that are supposed to resemble her and they’re all like girls with long blonde hair and nice makeup and skirts and just generally nice outfits. While that is all fine and good that is NOT an accurate depiction of Stevie ok. It is stated multiple times that the majority of her wardrobe is hoodies and jeans and the most fashionable thing she owns is a red coat. ALSO SHE LITERALLY HAS A FREAKING PIXIE CUT.

Don’t get me wrong, I sometimes mischaracterize my favorite characters but it’s like they didn’t even read the books.

genuinely, i think watching live theatre can improve your media literacy so much

like people who look at doctor who and are like 'lol the effects are so rubbish'

maybe watch a stage play where there's no backdrops and half the characters are played by the same three guys in different hats and maybe you will calm down

People who were raised on Marvel movies simply don’t understand the beauty of a well made and executed practical effect

You ever seen a person in all black operating a bird puppet? No you haven’t because we’ve all agreed to ignore the people dressed in all black. That’s a bird.

The show I just finished working on included a carriage chase that was conducted with actors on moving staircases that folded open into carriages, which were mostly stationary except when they were turned by the actors manipulating them, and the whole chase was communicated with projections, lights, and sound (and acting of course). At one point a character jumped from one carriage to another in slow motion, which is to say, an actor wearing all black lifted him and brought him across as he "leapt". Audiences fucking loved it.

Theatre's ability to create worlds with paper and string and a hat or two is one of my favorite things about it. For those two hours we all agree that the man in the brown hat is one person, and then when he switches to the blue hat he's another person. It's seamless and simple and is at its heart an act of community storytelling and I love it.

Im sorry but it is so funny how people outside of tumblr view us. Like why are the tiktokers treating tumblr like some professional ass website you need to do extensive prep before you begin posting on. And the follower farming advice is so fucking funny to me when this is the website where people actively hate getting new followers

this is my aesthetic:

Tips if u wanna start a tumblr blog:

  1. Have an email
  2. Make a tumblr account with said email
  3. Be annoying on main

Not enough people talk about how insane it is that royalty is even permitted to compete in the annual village contest to sing the Enchancia anthem. The year before Sofia won (s1's 'The Amulet and the Anthem'), Amber won. That's twice in a row two royal children were not only permitted to enter, but won. If I was a kid or parent who lived in Dunwiddie, I'd be pissed.

Honestly, Roland should know better. As royals, his kids are already extremely privileged and have a ton of opportunities. They have no business competing in a village competition (same thing goes for the yearly Dazzleball match with the village kids VS. the royal kids in another episode). I know it's not rigged in the royal kids' favor, and that everyone has an equal chance of winning (tho I'd find it sus as hell as a villager that a royal kid won not only one, but two years in a row), but that's not the point.

Let the royals have their own competitions, let the commonfolk have theirs!

Maybe Roland wanted to encourage association and friendship and equality between his kids and the village kids, to send the message to his kids *and* the commonfolk that being royal doesn't make them better and that they're all the same. If so, it's a good concept but poorly executed. There are much better ways of acknowledging that.

Thoughts?

i like that ravi didn't understand what pip was talking about when she showed him her selfie. and ravi decided that the best thing to say in this situation is not 'what are you talking about' but 'you look great'
