for like a decade I kept getting the advice of "don't ruminate" but also "sit with your emotions" and I was like What The Fuck Does That Even Mean. until someone finally explained it in a way that makes sense:

so there's the emotional part of your brain ("I'm embarrased") and then there's the storytelling part ("all my friends hate me and I'm a piece of shit"). when people say "don't ruminate" what they mean is don't feed the storytelling part

you tend to the emotion ("I'm feeling x. why am I feeling that? how do I move forward given that information? what's something nice I can do for myself right now to cope with this?") but you treat the storytelling part like a little goblin that's trying to be as unhelpful to this whole process as possible. this doesn't shut the storytelling goblin up completely, but it keeps it from causing so much chaos and over time it stops talking so damn much

it's basically like if you were trying to comfort a friend. you'd validate their emotions, but you wouldn't sit there and let them call themself a piece of shit. do that for yourself

they could be intersex but not in the same way as a human.

a snail thats missing ovarian tissue would functionally be fully male, and that deviates from the common sex of its species, which would make it intersex.

a clownfish that cant become female under any circumstances would also be intersex

Something something something young Ford right after the science fair incident going to sleep in a bedroom that's never been as empty or as lonely before. Unable to fall asleep, tossing and turning the whole night, filled with anger and resentment and paying and the utter wrongness of it all. However, despite all that, he still has this underlying confidence that this wouldn't last, that soon Stan would crawl back and apologize profusely. After all, he couldn't really just leave and go off on his own, could he? (And, if he does, it would mean that perhaps he really doesn't need anybody and, most importantly, isn't sorry and never was. Right?)

And add to that Stan, freshly kicked out, who drove aimlessly for a while and parked when he was too tired. There's a moment of panic about whether he's really gonna have to sleep in his car, but ultimately he has to, because he has nowhere else to go. He tries to reassure himself that it won't last long, that he just needs to think of a good enterprise, after that earning a ton of money wouldn't be a problem. And then he would come back and prove his family wrong and maybe possibly earn their love and forgiveness and it would all be fine.

In ~these times~ it is important for queer people to be reminded of what "coming out" originally meant. "Coming out" did not mean telling all of your co-workers something super stigmatized and vulnerable about you, wearing your queer status on your sleeve in public, informing the police or government institutions about your sexuality, or even telling your parents. "Coming out" meant venturing out into the queer community; being among other queers as a queer yourself.

Coming out isn't about telling the entire world when doing so is not safe for you, it's not about arming your enemies with information they could use against you. No, coming out is about making a fulfilling queer life possible for yourself through participation in the queer community. It is about escaping the restrictions and dangers of the cisgender heterosexual world by rooting oneself more deeply into the queer one.

And you can always do that. No matter how oppressed we are. No matter how much the culture shifts and policies are enacted to terrorize us. We are always able to be ourselves when we are amongst each other. And living our queerness has always been a collective social project, not just a matter of personal exposure.
