Remnants

summary: You've been freed, but was something left behind?

sneak peek: You try to stand but a horrible sting in your head drops you back to your knees. A concerningly familiar sting. You whimper and grab your head and will the pain to stop. It does after a minute or so and you hesitantly open your eyes. You've landed in a pool of blood, lovely, though you notice this pool is at the end of a trail.

You get to your feet and carefully follow the trail. You can only see about five feet in front of you, this strange darkness seems to almost avoid you as you walk. The small empty bubble you're in feels more oppressive somehow. You spot an unmoving figure on the ground in front of you.

An unrecognizable body lay before you, flayed and laid out in the same manner as that poor bard from the grove. A symbol drawn in her own blood seeps into the dirt around her, his symbol. This would be an average horrible nightmare for you were it not for the pendant the body was wearing. The pendant you made.

i was challenged to write a short ship fic about mistletoe :] so i did :]

You don't remember the last time you actually decorated for the holidays, much less celebrated them. People from the temple and coworkers would always give you little things and invite you to parties but you couldn't bring yourself to participate. Too busy drowning in grief and...other things.

Being with Jaq has changed how you see the whole affair. These holidays aren't just for acknowledging important religious history; they're a chance to cherish the people in your life, remember those who have passed, and celebrate living. She's changed a lot of things and you're not quite sure how to be grateful. For now, you're helping her decorate the apartment.

It's been over a decade since you celebrated Winter's Crest so she's guided you towards simple tasks like folding paper snowflakes and placing little deer figurines on every available surface. After tying some bows onto a small plant you noticed her tack a small bunch of leaves and berries to the top of the entryway to the kitchen. You'll have to ask her to remind you of the meaning behind all these traditions.
