Pokémon Ranch Life

@pokemonranch / pokemonranch.tumblr.com

Im Clayton, but you can call me Clay! I work as a Pokémon Rancher on Canalave, Sinnoh. This blog is to share pictures and stuff while working on the ranch, but feel free to ask any questions about ranch life or Pokemon care!

Hey! I'm Clayton (he/him). I'm an ex-trainer, and currently the owner of a private ranch on the outskirts of Canalave Town. We take care of abandoned, injured or just wild pokemon that happen to pass by!

I'm here to share my experiences on Pokémon care, post cute pics while working on the ranch, and answer any questions that you may have! Feel free to send any asks!

Here is a current list of my Pokemon:

Twig: Male Torterra, starter. I've been with him the longest, and he's my best friend. Would die for him.

Chompy: Female Garchomp. Absolute unit, loves head scratches

Hop: Male Hippowdon. Grumpy but non-aggresive. Will love you if you give him treats.

Shelly: Female Bastiodon, got her on an excavation back in Oreburgh. Close bond with Cranny

Cranny: Male Rampardos, originally from Oreburgh. Close bond with Shelly.

Beans: Male Kabuto, non-battler. He just hangs 'round!!!

Beau: Female Mudscale. Old, retired Poke Mount; helps 'round whenever she can carrying stuff.

Dashy: Female Rapidash, traded on Nov 25, 2024!

Plus a bunch other mons roaming free around the ranch!

How IS hazel? Haven’t heard anything about whatever adventure she’s on rn.

Hazel's doin' great! She's currently in Hoenn working on that gauntlet, so she left most (Bisharp the Bisharp is still with her) of her team here and is buildin' a new one.

I think I already showed y'all the Duskull she's carrying on her backpack, but she recently sent me this from Route 111!

His name is Turbo Death Needle Arm but we are callin' him Needles for short

Hey Clay! Loving the new beard, it suits you.

It’s me, the one who was once the Cold Banette anon, I guess I’m the lil’ Lucy anon now.

Speaking of which……. I came downstairs this morning, and you know what I saw? Lil’ Lucy. With an egg. Just……. Holding an egg. My other Pokémon avoid her, she couldn’t have gotten it from them. Where did she get this from?? I’m so confused…… The egg doesn’t even share her colours, it’s pink. None of my Pokémon are pink. What’s even happening, where did she get this from? What do I do??

Hey, thank you! Great to hear from you again!

As for the egg, that's... weird. Is it possible that she might have stolen it from a wild 'mon or trainer? Given that she was abandoned, it might be possible that she saw an egg "lying 'round" and decided to take it. It obviously isn't her fault if she stole it, (not many 'mons have a concept of personal property unless it's for mischievous acts); but I'd check with your local Center to see if someone lost an egg recently, just in case. Plus they can check if the egg belongs to a local population of wild 'mons!

Now, Lucy might be... a bit upset if she ends up havin' to return it, probably. How you handle it is up to ya, but if she wants to help other 'mons, maybe some enriching activities would benefit her? Like voluntary work at a shelter and all!

Howdy!! I was just wondering if you have any advice for caring for turtwig! I was recently gifted one and though I have experience with more "mammalian" and bug-type pokemon, grass type and reptilians are frankly lost on me. I've gotten him a sun lamp since winters are pretty dark where I'm from, but I was wondering if you could offer any more care advice?

Well, you're on the right path! Turtwigs need a lot of sunlight to be healthy; and a lot of water too! Despite evolving into a Ground-type, they need a lot of hydration, as they breathe usin' their leaves and they can get sick pretty quick when dehydrated.

I'd suggest gettin' one of those water fountains for Glameows too. He should take care of the rest in terms of bein' hydrated, but you should check periodically. A healthy Turtwig's back is solid and slightly damp!

Last but not least, despite bein' in the "reptile" category of 'mons, they can resist the cold pretty well! They need sunlight more than heat, so as long as he doesn't come in contact with snow too often, he should be fine if you live in Galar or northern Paldea.

// I didn’t send any weird asks but I honestly thought Clay was just a self-insert version of you (like Dante did in the Divine Comedy) and I was going to congratulate you on your beard.

//Nah, I don't have anything against self-inserts, but I don't use them! Clay is just a character the same way Hazel is, the only thing we have in common is that we both are ESL and like cowboys

meet my shinx, tatot!

tatot WILL. NOT. stop screaming at me if she sees that i have a laser pointer. poor girl is addicted. not to mention all the wires and headphones left destroyed in her wake.

but when she's not screaming at me, or generally being evil, she likes to watch starly by my window.

here's hoping that the little hellion calms down when she gets older..

She's not watching Starly... she's plottin' how to get that red dot...

There's the chance that she might calm down with age, but she absolutely won't calm down by evolving, I'll tell you that much!

Hey clay, this happened to me somewhat recently and I figured I’d ask since you have a lot of rock/ground types. So on the night of the full moon, I always take my clefairy up to this huge hill near my town, so she can dance with some of the wild clefairy living nearby. Last full moon, though, something shot straight down from the clouds and landed right in the middle of their circle. The clefairy actually played with it for a while, until it just… floated up and away.

I’m pretty sure it was a Pokémon, it had a rocky look to it and kinda glowed a little, seemed to spin around as it flew, but I have no idea what it could have been. I’ve never seen a Pokémon that looked like that. Thoughts?

It might have been a Minior! They're an unusual sight outside Alola, but sometimes they fall from the ozone layer during a meteor shower and can land in any region.

Their "fall" is involuntary and it's due to their weight, though it's possible that the Clefairies affected where it landed. It's not super-well known, but they do use their powers to create small-scale falling stars to get the necessary Moon stones for evolution; so the lil' guy might have been sucked into all of that!

Is drinking carbonated sour drinks harmful for Reuniclus? My baby boy loves lemon soda, but then you can see him fizzing. He looks like a soda himself once he has finished drinking. Is that normal for them?

I don't think it is harmful, they use their goo to dissolve food and expel waste, so he's probably just gettin' rid of the excess CO2 after drinking it!

I'd be more concerned 'bout the sugar intake in a Psychic type. Sugar rushes are bad on a regular 'mon, but if you have one that can rearrange your furniture with its mind, I'd leave the sodas for a very occasional pre-training treat

[hey i got a question about adoption sundays, say if i have a rotumblr blog that i would like to adopt a little guy for, but right now the blog's narrative wouldn't allow for it. would we still get priority considering they'll show up eventually? or would it be treated as a non rotumblr blog type thing?]

//As long as you fit the theme of "Pokemon RP" blog, I'd still consider you a priority over non-roleplay blogs! The when/how/if you use the design is completely up to the adopter, I don't take into account if they're in the middle of a plot and won't post about it immediately :]

Hey! So I have experience working with mudbray and Mudsdale, and I am wanting to branch out into the ponyta line. Is there anything I need to know in regards to care? Will rapidash and Mudsdale form a herd? Or do they need to stay separate.

The Mudscale and Rapidash lines are pretty similar in terms of herd behavior, and they can coexist together in the same group! However, their typing makes them have very different bonding behaviors when it comes to living together in the same open space.

As you may already know, Rapidash and Ponyta travel great distances daily, and Mudscale, though also able to travel long, they ain't able to follow at the same speeds. Plus their weight makes 'em way less agile when they get spooked so they just...kinda stay in place while the herd runs away, and that's an issue if they live out in the wilds.

For Mudbray/Mudscale, they need, well, mud! And lots of it, to regurgitate and to roll 'round, and Fire types ain't big on that.

So I'd say, they can live together in smaller places like a ranch, a sanctuary, or a battling team! But if you are a nomad rancher or do pastoralism, you might want to keep 'em separate
