regulus’s bedroom is right beside yours. his door seeming to hold more weight than the others, your stomach feeling heavy at the mere sigh of it. you’re quiet as can be as you wander into your bedroom, light on your feet and holding your breath to rid the empty halls of any noise. you’re fearful to garner his attention before you can slam the door shut behind you once you’re in the safety of your own bedroom. it’s always safe in your space. most of the time anyway. regulus doesn’t like the fact that on the other side of the thin walls, your other older brother, sirius, likely lays lazily in his bed, scheming one thing or another.

you nearly jump out of your skin when you notice regulus sitting on your bed. his back is reclined on your headboard, his lithe fingers holding some novel, the pages weighing the left side of it down as he nears the end. he doesn’t look up as you enter, but you know he knows you’re here.

stupidly, you reach for the doorknob anyway.

“leaving already?”

sirius had been a dream at first. his impulsivity and recklessness were a sort of turn on for you in the beginning when life had been to take more of a serious turn. university was coming to an end, and graduation was just around the corner when you stumbled upon him for the first time. his onyx locks messily draped over his head, obscuring his eyes as he held a cigarette between his lips, the scent of smoke and whiskey radiating off his body like a sick cologne.

sirius was charming to a fault—not that he would personally think so, the girls tripping over themselves only inflated his ego. sirius could get whatever he wanted and more with a simple sly grin or a few pretty words. that was how he landed you, too. he wormed his way into your life seamlessly, almost too easily. and you’ve come to learn that he simply did it just because he could. you’re not stupid enough to think that sirius really loved you anymore.

your nose aches, plastered firmly against the double stacked flat pillow of your bed. the pale blue pillowcase snugly fit around the two pillows, concealing the aged stains and uneven fluff and harboring the faint scent of your shampoo. you take in abrupt breaths through your parted lips between each cruel thrust, only for the air to be knocked from them as soon as the lean hips pounded against yours.

you regret digging into your savings for things that now seem entirely useless, instead of letting the hidden cash collect a few bills larger to purchase a brand new mattress. the aged springs of your current bed creak terribly, sounding loudly in the room among his strangled groans, the slapping of skin, and the venomous hiss of your stepfather's words.

“why are you crying, little girl?” he taunts, his scorching breath fanning your ear. “you wanted a daddy, didn’t you?”

james was only meant to stay the first few nights in your new apartment, helping you move your furniture around to your liking and tend to small, broken things around the home. but he never left.

it has been weeks and you can still hear james’s footsteps in the kitchen when you wake up in the morning and the occasional laugh as he scrolled through his phone in your living room.

it has been weeks and what started out as brazen knocks on your bathroom door have completely subsided. james always seems to wander in just before you have the opportunity to shut the door. sometimes, he runs your baths himself and welcomes you home with a hot bath, the steam fogging your bathroom mirror and puffing up his wild curls.

you can shower just fine on your own now. not that you ever needed the help to begin with. but james had always insisted and you were never very good at denying him, dreading the way his eyes would flash with something you couldn’t identify but never failed to make your skin crawl.

your brothers had always told you that it wasn't weird. it's what siblings do. why are you making something so innocent seem taboo? so disgusting? so wrong?

"it's not like we touch each other anymore," sirius says, his fingers gently tucking your hair behind your ear. the lilt in his voice is familiar—it's the tone he always uses to get what he wants. "they're just kisses. you kiss mother, don't you?"

"on the cheek," you mumble, your gaze drifting from sirius's face, fixing on the vase of flowers you can't quite identify, focusing on the delicate white petals. "mary said it's not right to kiss on the mouth."

regulus interrupts with a small scoff, "of course she'd say that. why are you listening to her? she doesn't have her own siblings, does she?"

i think it can be fun too ! my main issue with it--aside from the fact that it makes no sense--is that people are taking it too far and it's considered "canon" now. if you disagree, you get people bitching at you and telling you to kys. like ???? this fandom is 90% fanon ??? that's the fun in it ??? everyone has their own version ???
