Y'all see that thousand yard stare, Jey's gone. I could write poems and essays about this segment. When Jimmy was getting worked over and we saw Jey stop, stand still and was just taking it in cause there was nothing he could do about it even after struggling as hard as he could. At that moment I had flashbacks to 2020 Jey vs Roman, the beginning saga of the right hand man and I'm sure he had his war flashbacks too. I'm sorry Jimmy had to get done in for him to lock in but this made the most sense. It wouldn't have worked with anybody else. Jimmy is literally the physical manifestation of Jey's heart and soul and everybody knows it. This was the absolute worst thing that Gunther could've done, he finally showed Jey the hell that he promised him. He's gonna pay for it though. Jimmy 100% knew there was a chance this was gonna happen and he made himself the sacrificial lamb and threw himself to the wolves to bring back Crash Out Jey. He's his brother's keeper. They sold that segment so well. Jey pausing his struggling at intervals and you see him disassociating in real time, him taking in Jimmy getting gradually bloodier and then the taunting from Gunther and the end shot of Gunther standing over them covered in his brother's blood holding the title and then Jey softly caressing Jimmy's head and he was just calm like he didn't just see his brother get brutalized. Cinema. Gunther just gave himself a problem he can't get rid of and that ass whooping Jey is gonna put on him is gonna be for more than just the title. It's extra personal now.

Yes it’s called the mammalian diving response and it’s also why doing face masks and taking a shower is soothing. Our amphibian ancestors used this mechanism to slow down the heartbeat and lower body temperature so as not to waste calories while swimming (which is very calorie intensive). It makes you feel safe because predators are less likely to get you in water than on land. The fish brain is alive and well in all of us.
