Kayla Somarriba is helping her family raise money for attorney fees. Assaulted by ICE in Spokane WA, they had all their truck windows smashed when ICE claimed that they had a warrant for her husband, who is completing the green card process. ICE declined to show and arrest warrant, and forcibly removed her husband and brother-in-law from the truck. I've just seen two posts go by, people saying something to the effect of "I don't know who submitted my fundraiser to Radio Free Monday, but thank you!!"

This is one of the reasons why I wanted to keep RFM going - because a helpful boost can come from anywhere, and us all helping each other out is another great part of the broader fandom community. And yes, if you see someone's fundraiser on Tumblr, absolutely feel free to submit it! Don't worry about "someone else might submit it and that makes more work" - I can flag duplicate donation URLs, sort the sheet before I craft the weekly post, all kinds of stuff.

Hi all, it's thelaughingmuse, who took over stewardship of Radio Free Monday. Most of what Radio Free Monday did, previously, was share links for individuals or families or small groups (like theater troupes), specifically but not ONLY from members of the fannish community, who were fundraising. Copperbadge put a "no fic reccing or finding" note in place on the submission form to set some limits, and the overwhelming majority of RFM links/requests were for fundraising assistance.

Now, especially with the recent changes in the US, and more people trying to organize and share more information, I'm seeing other types of links being submitted. I have not been posting these three requests (a local-politics info community, a pet resource, another mutual-aid community) because if this trickle becomes a flood, as it very well may, I will become overwhelmed pretty fast. But I also realize that these communities and links are important, and giving them a boost - or more specifically, an easy-to-find signpost on the web - can be pretty crucial. So I'm going to propose a thing.

If you want to start a longer-term resource to share certain types of news, or to organize, and you want to promote this link…I will add those links to a separate-linked page on RFM. (Please don't submit them just yet! I have some prepwork to do before I can start taking and keeping these links.) Additionally, at the end of a given month, I'll post the links I added in the previous month, with RFM-style blurbs. This does a few things:

I want to try and keep with Copperbadge's decision on "which fundraising links to post" - don't vet, why people need help doesn't matter as much as that they're in need and asking for help, so share the request - without opening the door to blatant n^z! or other similar links. And I have to figure out how to either modify the RFM intake form to let people submit these other types of links and flag them so that I know: this is a fundraising link, this is another online community. So this will take some time. But I'm planning to do this, so know that this is coming. If you have these types of links to submit…please don't submit them yet, but watch this space. When I modify the form and am ready for these new submissions, I'll let folks know with the RFM weekly notices.
