Some more thoughts on Richard...
People sometimes say that he comes off as arrogant and negative in interviews in regards to Rammstein. He talks about how hard compromise is, how there isn’t going to be a next album, how he hates recording, etc… And some say that he is a dick because of this, unlike the rest of Rammstein, who are happy to get along
I think it’s important to think about this from the perspective a relative, artistic person. Imagine you value expression, putting yourself into your work, trying to follow your vision..and you have to compromise with five other people.
There’s a reason Till said writing poetry was much more freeing than writing lyrics for Rammstein (where he had to adhere to pre-determined music and bow to the demands of his bandmates). And there’s a reason he doesn’t get feedback from everyone all together on his lyrics at once anymore.
It sucks to see your creations torn apart by multiple critics, and to grit your teeth while elements you loathe or disagree with are adopted.
Now, some people are naturally going to be more controlling of their creative vision than others. Richard is on the controlling side, probably. But that’s also why he was the first one to create another band on the side: to have a place where he could control his music. It isn’t a coincidence he was the one who first got Rammstein together, either.
It might be nicer to imagine everyone gets along perfectly in Rammstein during the creative process, but I guarantee you, with six guys, just about every decision about anything is going to leave someone unhappy. Just deciding where to order takeout from is going to be an ordeal.
Richard just happens to be the one who talks about the issue most, because of his personality and artistic tendencies, including his penchant for doing lots of interviews.
