some gen commander ideas

  • human commander with a pollen allergy who sneezes around their sylvari companions - who all find it very amusing to differing degrees
  • human commander who’s allergic to cats and sneezes immediately upon meeting rox, who teases them for years after about it
  • sylvari commander who discovers they’re similar to catnip only after about 100 stray cats have adopted them
  • sylvari commander that, while very upbeat and friendly, is very distinctly not human at all and has trouble communicating some of their ideas simply because they view the world so differently
  • charr commander who’s very tall and intimidating - and jumps at small unexpected noises, is NOT following little lights/lasers or fireflies you must be mistaken, and is also NOT intimated by dogs that’s not why they decided to take up residence on top of the nearest cabinet when the big krytan drakehound came in
  • charr commander with very good balance but very bad depth perception, gracefully leaping from spot to spot and then confidently missing and landing on their feet just short of the JP goal
  • norn commander who is unapologetically loud, boisterous, and upbeat - especially in battle, cheerfully yelling “hello to you too!” as an enemy repeatedly attempts to chop their limbs off
  • norn commander who isn’t afraid to take up space, including sitting on furniture that is study but obviously too small for them, and is always down for physical intimacy with their friends, but always asks first before initiating a big ol hug
  • asura commander who knows that some people underestimate them because of their size and use that against their opponents, much to the delight of their friends who know them well
  • asura commander who insists on being heard regardless of what people think, even installing leg/shoe enhancers that enable them to get taller when needed and a megaphone in case there are jerks who still talk over them
“Never refuse a gift from someone who can swallow you whole.“~Kuunavang

Kuunavang is a Saltspray dragon hailing from the Jade sea area of Cantha. In Guild Wars: Factions she played a role in defeating Shiro Tagachi after being cured of her corruption during Unwaking Waters by canthan heroes. She is one of the last known uncorrupted Saltsprays aside from Albax. An ancient and mysterious force, she has the ability to grant power to those she deems worthy.

Saltsprays are interesting draconic creatures, more akin to a drake than elemental. Notable individuals like Albax are known for their ability of good fortune. In Albax’s case he had cursed a human with bad luck until his scale was returned to him. Theories can be made of the species pre-Jade Wind but I hope they are explored in EoD!

“You are bold to approach me thus, <Character name>. Most of my kin were corrupted by the Jade Wind two hundred years ago. Yet only I remain, the sole living incarnation of good fortune in all the land, and I will not harm you. I thank you for the return of this scale. Your courage inspires even my ancient heart. You may return to Infortunatos Maxeles, and tell him I have lifted my curse…but he should not risk my disfavor again." ~Albax

  • /shrug
  • /thanks or /ty
  • /wave

Emotes needing to unlock an achiev/novelty:

  • /geargrind (unlock How to Dance, Volume 1)
  • /shuffle (unlock How to Dance, Volume 1)
  • /step (unlock How to Dance, Volume 1)
  • /rockout (unlock “/Rockout” Emote Tome)

Customized emotes:

You can create custom emotes by typing /me, /emote, /em, or /e followed by a space and the text to display as an emote.

/me laughs in triumph = [Character Name] laughs in triumph.

Synchronizing emotes:

Appending an asterisk “*” to an emote (e.g. “/dance *”) will put it into a queue which is processed every 5 seconds. This allows for multiple players to do emotes at the exact same time.

Persistent emotes:

The talk, dance, kneel, sit, sleep, cry, facepalm, sad and crossing arms emotes are persistent - meaning they will not stop until you do a physical action. When you use a skill with an activation time, move, perform an action (including entering combat and looting), sheathe / draw a weapon, or press the Esc key, the emote will end.

Trivia:

  • Back items will disappear during emotes.
  • Weapons as well but you can show them by using an item skill before starting it and then dropping the item.
  • Throughout the Shiverpeaks, using /kneel in front of altars or shrines gives boons.
  • In Charr territory, using /salute on Charr statues gives boons.
  • Using /threaten on ornery crabs turns them to hermit crabs.
  • The /emotelist command will display a full list of available emotes in chat.

  • Zooming in and out of First Person view will show your weapons and backpack, but other players will still not be able to see them. (This works for all emotes, you just need to be fast about some of them.)
  • If your weapons were drawn before emoting, they will appear in your character’s hands instead of on their back.

You can get back pieces to appear for everyone while also doing emotes by toggling them off and back on from your equipment/wardrobe menu!!

i finally finished this omg.

Nera the Patient, my big vigil charr. ICly she has a thick mane :D (arenanet if u see this pls give the mane hairstyle to females thnx)

i started this december last year but i’ve never rendered armor before so i gave up for a while. i’m really not satisfied with the shading and stuff but it’s good for a first attempt. every completed drawing is a learning improvement, after all.

she is wearing - legion shoulders & boots, dreadnaught gauntlets & pants, vigil’s honor chestplate & she is carrying lightward’s battlestaff.

hello, commanders!

lglkfmaskd im posting this at 3am but, hi gw2 tag!!! i wanna get into the community more! i’ve been playing since april 2018 and i wanna start creating content! i’m currently plotting & drafting a level 1 - 80 + LWS + HOT + POF in-depth fanfiction that details the life and adventures of a commander! i’m currently thinking a Sylvari ranger / guardian! to say hi, here’s a draft of the first chapter! it’ll definitely change but this is the general vibe i’m going for, pls excuse any errors i wrote this at 3am and in one go!!: /// Love, as was so often said, was the strongest force on Tyria. It could move mountains, inspire the hearts of men to fight unwinnable battles, and create peace between lifelong enemies. Love, then, was the key to all good things: and in its absence, all bad things. What can be said of love other than how easy it is to find? Even in the depths of despair, in the writhing agony of loneliness, there is love; and there is perhaps no greater love than that between a mother and her children. The Pale Tree was a practical incarnation of maternal love, loving all her children equally, and loving all of Tyria. But, for the coming tribulations Zhaitan would wreck upon the world, she needed a champion, she needed to create a sort-of Sylvari super-soldier, a Sylvari capable of any Wyld Hunt, a Sylvari capable of all things. And so, she began to work. She conjured an image in her mind: A sturdy frame of pure plant muscle, thick in bark, and greatly resistant to temperature. This frame would be trapezoidal in nature: strong, broad shoulder that elegantly lead downwards to a beautifully slimmed waistline. The bark would be an off-white, she had seen in a vision the beauty this child, and so decided to help dress this child the part. She sensed he would be grateful to match his future liege in coloration. The head would have a jagged ‘hair’ style, as if crystals grew from the child’s head. It wasn’t, necessarily, an unusual look for her children: for him, it would merely match his liege better. She gently chuckled to herself in her soothing voice as she poured over his creation. She normally granted her children free reign to decide their looks for themselves when they emerged from the Dream of Dreams, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that this one needed more guidance than the rest. She had questions regarding the ethics of this: she knew the great pain and suffering this one would have to endure, and yet, she still wanted him to live. Would the good this child would bring to Tyria outweigh all the times his mind betrays him? All the times he stays up late at night huddled alone sobbing because his entire world is decaying away? She couldn’t concern herself any longer. If she did, she might spare him this, and if she did: There would be no stopping the Elder Dragons. \ askfmaslkfmklam anyways hi i love y'all already

Since sprouts aren’t born as adults like tree-born sylvari they actually age, but still age faster than children of other races do. They sprout as toddlers, about the equivalent of three human years, and continue to grow at a rate of about three human years in a calendar year, so it takes them about 6 years to become the mental and physical equivalent of a human 18-year old.

I like this. But how is the sprout actually born? Is it a birthing process similar to humans or something different?

I have the headcanon that after Mordremoth’s death Sylvari begin to slowly evolve to be able to have offsprings of their own, both with each other or with other races.

It’s not necessarily a physical process, more along the lines of that when a Sylvari deeply connects with someone and there is a want to have children with that someone, a small seed sprouts nearby which over time grows in a similar manner to the pods Sylvari have always come out of - though in this case, the pods are significantly smaller, and the Sylvari born in this manner to their parents are basically toddlers both physically and mentally when they awaken.

They then proceed to grow into adulthood like the children of other races, and while they have a connection to the Dream and other Sylvari it is weaker than that of their Pale Tree-born relatives, and they still have to be mainly taught and raised by their parents as any other child would.

Once it becomes more common for Sylvari to be born like this alongside their Pale Tree-born relatives there are some among the latter who develop a bit of a bias against them.

“Motherless” is what those born in the Grove call those born of Sylvari parents or a Sylvari parent and their non-Sylvari partner, claiming only those who are awakened by their Pale Mother herself are True Sylvari (and also smarter, more competent and skilled, etc.).

Since those opinions are frowned upon by the majority of Sylvari society the term does end up becoming akin to a slur and considered highly offensive.

Regarding the Nightmare Court, they generally have a harder time sprouting pod-seeds since it requires a strong positive connection with another being, and the Court isn’t so keen on love and trust between one another.

If courtiers do manage to have an offspring the child is still inherently born with a connection to the dream - what goes for the any race, that nobody is born evil, holds true for Sylvari too in this case. Hrowing up in the Court however usually results in these children being corrupted and turned to Nightmare eventually through their parents and the way they are raised - through fear and violence.

There are also the occassional courtier children who do not fall to corruption though, holding onto the Dream and eventually running away once they are old enough, though they usually face the scrutiny of their peers when it becomes known they are an offspring of Nightmare courtiers and have a harder time finding acceptance in the Grove.

Needles to say but just in case: gender or lack thereof doesn’t matter at all of course, every Sylvari has the potetial to put cute lil toddlers into the world with any partner of their choosing, be they cis, trans, nonbinary… you get the idea.

Also the Pale Tree loves her grandchildren like her own children!!! She will listen to their worries and give advice if they come to her, even those who escaped from their Nightmare Court parents, because it’s one thing to her to be born into peaceful circumstances and actively choosing violence, but being born into violence and managing to cling onto the good is an entirely different thing and commendable in her eyes.

Sylvari parents sometimes choose to show off their newborn to her like “Look mom what I made!” and she will give them her blessing (and dote on them for the remainder of the day… but shhh).

It’s also just a big relief for her to know her children have a future even if something should happen to her that would render her unable to put more Sylvari into the world herself.

Ya ever think bout the fact the Sylvari commander was essentially born and bred for the role of Dragonslayer, had no youth or time to learn about themselves, their world, or anything besides being a hero and get emotional

Taimi: Commander, I’m getting an odd reading from the communicator. Your temperature seems to be fluctuating. Wildly. Commander: Oh yea, that makes sense. I was given a heat barrier from one of the Spirits of the Wild down here. Taimi: Sure. Yeah, uh-huh. Perfect sense. But seriously what’s happening? Commander : I told you. These voices spoke to me. Taimi: Uh-huh? Commander : Then the ghost tree things told me I should free them. Taimi: Uh-huh. Commander : And in return, they grant me protection from the high temperatures. Taimi: Sure, sure… So, uh… You’re clearly suffering from heat stroke. But don’t panic; I’ll send help your way! Commander : Taimi, I’m fine. Or will be. As soon as I liberate more of my magical ghost friends. Taimi: Oh, boy.

You’re Still A Person

A GW2 Fanfic

So I wrote this out after Jormag’s rising, in relation to a certain achievement. I was planning to add more as I completed each step of the achievement, but as it is bugged, I decided to post it as is. That being said, there are spoilers for Jormag Rising under the cut!
