maybe it's a reflection of my own experiences, but i flat-out do not trust raised-by-republicans "leftists" who never had a moderate phase. that moderate phase is integral to unlearning the worst of your parents' republican bullshit. it's only because of that moderate phase that you can allow yourself to genuinely see the flaws in the system and start to reevaluate what you actually believe
jumping right from right-wing to left-wing is like. you are 100% substituting one thing for another, and you are not unlearning those thought processes. you are, as awsten knight would say, overcorrecting, chasing a replacement, and filling the hole with justice, and it's bad, actually.

to a lesser extent, this also 100% applies to ex-evangelicals who convert(ed) to judaism (especially around 2015-2023) without taking a break to sit and process their religious trauma and think about what it is they truly value and believe.
