Lots of thoughts recently. Everything feels plastic.

I could go on and on about why all that AI "art" is bad. I could mention theft, lack of creativity, it's impact on the work field and environment, but countless people have already said all that. I wanted to touch on something that to me is the most utterly wrong about all of it.

Art is more than just something pretty to look at or listen to. It's therapeutic. It's a form of communication. A tool for human connection. It's a pure, human need.

Hey everyone, I know it's going to be a busy day for a lot of people, but Google enrolled everyone over 18 into their AI program automatically.

If you have a google account, first go to gemini.google.com/extensions and turn everything off.

Then you need to go to myactivity.google.com/product/gemini and turn off all Gemini activity tracking. You do have to do them in that order to make sure it works.

Honestly, I'm not sure how long this will last, but this should keep Gemini off your projects for a bit.

I saw this over on bluesky and figured it would be good to spread on here. It only takes a few minutes to do.

Out of interest, I would like to ask, how do you feel about OC+Canon? (Specifically in the fandom of devilish lovers)

I just personally like to bring my favorite favorite (Reiji) together with my OC, draw pictures with them.

However, for some reason, most people are against OC+Canon, and what is your personal position? How do you feel about this direction? How do you feel about people who like/dislike this direction?

Oya? I'd be interested why you want my opinion on the matter as, at the end of the day, I am just a guy on the internet with mediocre opinions. But, since you asked so concisely, I will answer.

I think OC/Canon content is interesting and provided everyone is playing nice online (it can be filled with drama, speaking from personal experiences over the years, especially in DL), it's fun to do. There is no harm in making an OC or a sona and shipping them with a canon of your choice so long as you are kind to others and respect that due to the limited character roster, you may will find doubles within any fandom, especially DL.

OC content creators are some of the most talented and creative people I have seen online and I think it is a shame that people give them a hard time when they're not hurting anyone. Projecting yourself into a series (so akin to yumeshipping) or making your own OC is a creative outlet and should be respected. People are doing this for comfort, fun, etc. It's not a crime or anything.

I have OCs and OC/Canon ships myself, I just don't post about them often for varying reasons that are all inherently personal and have no bearing on the community at large. That said, I support those with OCs and OC/Canon ships so long as they're not behaving badly. Because there can be unkind people in any space, I do not feel comfortable saying I support anyone or anything universally.

I don't think others should harass those who make OCs. If you have the time to bully OC owners, use your time on something more worthwhile, read a book, or work a job. Jesus.

TL;DR: I have OCs too. OC creators don't deserve to be hated for having OCs, it's a valid expression of creativity.

to those of you who are moving here from tiktok, from someone whos used both tiktok and tumbr for years...

1. DO NOT censor your posts

dont censor sex, abuse, suicide, dont censor it. we dont have censors like tiktok does, you wont be banned for talking about these things and tagging them properly helps people avoid them (also, we dont have shadowbanning here)

2. we dont really have an algorithm

you follow who you follow, and you see posts from who you follow or what you search. the 'for you page' is basically useless here. this also brings me to my next two points

3. dont crosstag

we get it, on tiktok you have to crosstag for reach, but thats not really a thing here. just tag your posts properly (also posters often leave more info about the post in the tags!! and when you reblog stuff you can leave your own notes in the tags, kind of like the old "repost comments" on tiktok)

4. dont expect to go viral/be famous

"viral" isnt really a thing on here (at least not for the average blogger). your posts will probably get 2-10 likes and you wont get nearly as many followers than on tiktok. thats just how tumblr is

5. blocking is your best friend

tiktok is VERY discussion based, and while tumblr is much more discussion based than other social medias, its still not a good place for ragebait/discourse. dont interact, itll make your experience worse in the end, just block and move on

6. you cant go into someone elses house and start rearranging their furniture

this is tumblr, not tiktok. dont diss old tumblr users for how they use the site or try to change them, thats like going into someone elses house and trying to rearrange their furniture. we've been here longer and we're familiar with the site and its culture, either find your niche, adapt, or find a different app

Another important point

You need to actually reblog posts for this site to work as it should.

Liking posts only saves them in a spot that no one checks except for the user who liked them. Most people have their liked posts hidden.

Also, this site has a spam bot problem. One way we weed those out is to check the blog to see if it's actually being used to post legitimate content. If there is absolutely nothing on your blog you're getting blocked and some users may just straight up report you as spam as a precaution.

Not to mention that the posts you reblog will only be seen by you and whoever follows you. Tagging it "fyp" does absolutely nothing.

Something that needs to be stressed is that Tumblr is not a place where you can game the system to get popular. There is no algorithm, flooding random tags just pisses people off, and a lot of standards like a call to action don't really work here. (I saw someone have "engage with my content" in their bio the other day and just shuddered.)

That doesn't mean you can't find community or get followers here! I've found many artists and writers I love on Tumblr. Take some time to find people you like, look at what they do and how they engage with folks, and see what works that you like.

Good question, and thanks for asking someone! It wasn't even easy for me to find again.

First, the instructions will be slightly different depending on whether you are using desktop, mobile browser, or the app. My instructions are for mobile browser since I like using an ad blocker.

  • Tap the [burger] menu icon in the top left corner and then tap Account
  • Pick the first blog you want to opt out with and scroll down to Blog Settings for that specific blog
  • In Blog Settings, scroll to the Visibility section or just all the way to the bottom
  • "Prevent third-party sharing" is what you want to turn off. For some reason I can't see the "off" toggles in my version, but they are there. If you can't see the toggle just tap left of the word "Prevent" and it will show up.

tl;dr - Menu > Account > [blog] > Blog Settings > Visibility

If you have multiple sideblogs you have to opt-out for each one individually. Yeah

If this is not helpful to you because you use the app, I know there are other tutorials out there, but also someone in the replies can probably help.

I don't know if this video has made it to tumblr yet, but let me share the link because this is important. Disabled people need help and should be a part of every evacuation plan. Accessibility means everyone has what they need, and it's not one size fits all.

Molly is right. You can acquire some kind of disability at any time in your life, it's one of the few minorities that you can just wake up into if life happens. This isn't an "other" and shouldn't be.

Please note that I might not be wording this well because I'm not sure how to phrase my feelings, watch Molly's video, it words it better than I could.
