This drawing was particularly inspired by the ending scene of Chapter 16 💜💜💜 It got stuck in my brain when I was desperately catching up after falling like, a dozen chapters behind and I needed to draw it!

In Romeo and Juliet, Mercutio called Tybalt "Prince of Cats" because there was a book, popular at the time, with a cat prince named Tybalt in it. He was making a pop culture reference. Therefore, I move, that in a modern Romeo and Juliet retelling, Tybalt should be named Garfield.

Funny how depending on who's saying it and where, the words "dark fantasy" could mean that the work contains a hardcore questionably ethical kink scenario, or it could mean that at some point there might be some kind of a Skeleton King.

One under-appreciated breed of fic writer are the ones who hyperfocus on logistics to the exclusion of all canon shortcuts, and thus usually strike upon an awesome way to flesh out the worldbuilding or characters.
Like, I’m not necessarily talking realism here since often it’s still pretty far from realistic, but more like, “someone has to be running spies in this fantasy kingdom, and we’ve seen the whole royal court, so which background character is it? How does that change these three major interactions?” Or “real life historical nobility did in fact have some things to do that were like jobs, how does this human disaster cope with running an estate?” Or “there’s no reason for a sci-fi robot detective to know how to whitewater kayak, where’d she learn?” Or “if this guy is serving the emperor directly he has to be way high up in the space empire servant hierarchy, why is he doing this menial task for someone else? What’s his motive? Does he perhaps have the secret space telepathy?”
Anyway I’m always DELIGHTED to find a fic or writer who asks these questions because the fics themselves are universally bangers.
person who knows how logistical things works has picked up the cannon, hefted it thoughtfully, and put a single chalk mark precisely on the problem.

lou wilson is my favourite intrepid hero because nobody does character emotion like him.
the way gunnie pulls his old professor off to the side and says, "i did it! i'm a spacer! i, uh... i'm a spacer," and the look on his face that second time when he repeats he's a spacer, how he looks down to the side to avoid eye contact and bites his lip and his eyes look a little wet, and it's all there on his face: the regret, the guilt, the shame, running from debt with a cyber body that he financially does not own and having to pay for literally every breath he takes to continue living, his crew, the way his whole life has been a ball rolling downhill since he decided to be a spacer and how it might be rolling up now but he's almost died so many times just to stand there and say it...
lou says "it worked out, i was right" as gunnie miggles-rashbax, and his phyrric adventure to prove he was meant to be a spacer is plain on his face and in the desperately assured way he says he's in the right place to be, and that's why lou is my favourite.

I was GOING to say. That when you read a wine menu and see something like "notes of leather and wet stone" you think "did an insane person write this its grapes" but after youve read about wine and growing regions and the effect of oak barrels on aging and tasted a bunch of stuff and given it some thought you find yourself taking a sip of french syrah and thinking "mmm little bit of leather on the finish there" and all of a sudden that shits not crazy anymore. disney is making live action remakes of all the wrong movies……………turning 2D animated films into 3D animated w all that cgi…………..when cars is literally right there
the only change they’d need to make is make the cars human. a cocky nascar driver gets stranded in an isolated desert town forced to do community service and realizing the thing he’s been missing is a community. beautiful scenery, vintage cars, a good soundtrack, small town americana. a winning (ha) formula that would genuinely translate so well to live action
