oh, i have to tell you guys about Owha because i love her so much

Owha is a leopard seal that has been visiting New Zealand waters since roughly 2012 and is now pretty much a permanent resident who just cruises between different harbours and bays

Owha is short for her Māori name “He owha nā ōku tūpuna” which translates to mean “treasured gift from our ancestors”

she’s a bit of a local celebrity - leopard seal sightings are reported to a team of marine biologists in NZ, and they give us all the good Owha updates about where she is and what she’s doing + photos people have taken (she’s identifiable by two scars on her flank)

she’s also been a source of quite a bit of drama too - she’s very friendly and inquisitive and playful. she’s unfortunately deflated a few inflatable boats in the harbour as well as occasionally pulled pieces off of boats. as a result, the boaties have demanded she be sedated and returned to antarctica

late last year/early this year, someone shot owha in the face, which was extremely upsetting to say the least. what I am glad to report though is that she’s made a full recovery and is still doing her thing!

Owha continues to be an New Zealand icon who is surprisingly pleasant to the locals she encounters, and overall is living her best life

A ringed seal emerges from a hole in the sea ice in the Arctic. To keep warm, the ringed seals cuddle up in caves in the snow, where they are also protected from their biggest predators: polar bears.

I had a dream that there was a seal in our garden, which was not great for the seal so we went on an adventure to find him at least a lake

**this time posting all of the sketches.. also what I havent captured is that the seal swam through the green of our garden as if it was water.. but unfortunately there werent any fish… he also talked and was very polite.

Missing Person, Please Help

Hello everyone,

Tumblr has proven to be an excellent resource in finding missing persons.

We are appealing to you, especially those in Scotland, but anyone can reblog.

Our friend Nusrat Jahan (or Nusrat Dow) has gone missing. She was last seen headed to the beach in Aberdeen, Scotland 5 days ago. The football match let out around the same time.

Nusrat is 5′3 and 34 years old. She was wearing flat black slip on shoes, black leggings or skinny jeans, a light grey patterned top, black rimmed glasses and was using a white handbag with black band across the top.

If you have seen someone resembling Nusrat or have any information, please get in touch with the Aberdeen police.

Phocas on the positive - March is the o-fish-al start of harbor seal (Phoca vitulina) pupping season in Monterey Bay! Moms and pups need lots of quality time together right after they’re born to bond and so pup can go through seal training. If you happen to be near the coast, be shore to give the seals and their pupping grounds plenty of peace and quiet, and respect any beach closures in the area to keep our blubber buds safe!

“Police investigating the disappearance of Sarah Everard are searching a home and woodland in Kent following the arrest of a serving Met officer.

The 33-year-old was last seen in Clapham, south London, on 3 March.

The policeman and a woman were arrested at a house in Kent on Tuesday. Searches are being carried out at a building in Deal as well as on land near Ashford.

The Met said it was “shocking and deeply disturbing” that the arrested man was a serving officer.”

We don't need more diverse Disney movies, we need Disney to be shut down and broken up so that it stops dominating entertainment and choking out smaller creators and studios.
