Caged Wings Had this idea in my head for a while now. Finally gave it a go. Though my original idea was of a caged tiger, it somehow became birds as I sketched. Maybe I'll make another version with a tiger in the future~ Here's a quick timelapse. The full hours long 6 recording sessions for this painting, plus HD image and PSD file will be DMed on Patreon.com/Yuumei on April 5th.

I hate the ao3 comment limit but one good thing thatโ€™s come out of it is that I havenโ€™t had any more comments that are just โ€œupdate now!โ€ since it rolled out. Guess now that thereโ€™s a limit, people finally realized what a waste of a comment it is demanding that the author update.

I know that realistically you can only fit so many movies into a list of approximately 100, but I cannot take that "How many of tumblr's favorite movies have you seen?" list that's been going around seriously because there are some truly egregious omissions.

Some of it is very clearly recency bias, which makes me wonder if the op truly wasn't on here in 2013 or so, but you're telling me you made a list of "tumblr's favorite movies" that doesn't include Pacific Rim or Mad Max: Fury Road? Because, like, I was there, Gandalf.

I'm a ridiculous human and genuinely couldn't sleep until I tried my hand at a better, more balanced list -- though of course, I have my own biases when it comes to what corners of this website I've lurked in over the years. For what it's worth, I did consult the last several Years In Review, while also drawing on the fact that I've been here for over a decade. But if there's anything that truly doesn't feel like it should have made the cut, blame my mutuals for putting it on my dash all the time.

(And apologies, but I couldn't seem to find Goncharov among the website's listings)

I said this over on the skysite but realized it would probably be useful over here too, so!

Friendly reminder to AO3 readers that you absolutely should not be in the habit of making personal Collections for your favorite ficsโ€”instead, add tags to your bookmarks and use those to browse! This also works for private bookmarks, so there's no reason to do it otherwise.

The issue with using Collections for bookmark organization is that this feature can be (and often is) used by bad actors to hide fics they dislike by setting the collection to "Unrevealed" after the author agrees to have their work added. This hides the fic from everyone except the collection admin and the author, changing the fic listing to a note reading "This work is part of an unrevealed collection."

As you can probably guess, this is a common fancop tactic to hide what they consider "objectionable content" from readers.

Authors: DO NOT allow people you don't know to add your work to collections unless you actually participated in an event for which the collection was made. If you agree to have your work added to a collection and the admin changes the status of that collection in any way, you do not receive any notice. It doesn't matter how old the fic is, how many people had it bookmarked, how many people were subscribed to the ficโ€”if the collection is set to "Unrevealed," even after the fact, nobody else can see anything in it.

Readers: DO put tags on your bookmarks and use AO3's browsing filters on said bookmarks to find specific fics. There is no reason to make a personal collection with how robust AO3's tag system is, and the only reason you'd set a personal collection to "Unrevealed" is to intentionally hide someone else's work, which is an undeniably shitty thing to do.

I hate it when this starts making the rounds again because it makes people really paranoid about their work being hidden without their consent (but I do agree that bookmarks are a way better way to organize fics you love).

What happens when you wanna invite a fic to a hidden collection is that you get this lil warning message:

What happens if you turn a collection to Unrevealed after a fic is already in there is absolutely nothing at first (tested this one out too by turning a challenge collection I own to Unrevealed):

First fic was already posted by this author on March 3rd when it was a normal collection (thanks for letting me use your fic to test this out, ilu) and the second fic was added by me on my other account to a collection that was already Unrevealed at that point.

This is the part where I get fact checked by someone saying hey Dee, but if you turn a collection Unrevealed, you get this button that allows you to also set a fic to Unrevealed inside the collection.

This is true, you do have a button! And it works, the moment you check the Unrevealed box and click Submit, the fic turns into a Mystery Work.

And then the other thing that happens pretty much instantly when you click Submit is this:

AO3 will notify you immediately that someone hid your work and will give you a link to where you can undo that because other people can't decide whether your fic is visible or not.

Now if you go to your Preferences you'll see the option "Turn off emails from collections" that may have you worried, especially if you had this enabled. You don't need to be because AO3 addressed this too if you click on the lil info button by noting they will email you about your work being hidden even if you chose not to get emails about collections:

If you don't wanna allow anyone to even invite your fics into collections, you can also disable invites on your Preferences page completely.

Currently Reading: Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell (not too far into it but very intrigued), The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (for the fiftieth time and because I just finished Sunrise on the Reaping), and Velveteen vs The Early Adventures by Seanan McGuire (putting off finishing this one because I want it to keep going).

Was mistaken for a fresh 12 years old today.

Which is great.

Normally people think Iโ€™m in the 14-16 range.

I dropped off my siblings at their school like last week, and I got stopped at the gate on the way out. Y'all they thought I was a highschooler tryna skip class ๐Ÿ˜ญ

On one hand, I love this for you. On the other, Iโ€™ve had nightmares where Iโ€™m back in high school and they wonโ€™t let me leave because they think Iโ€™m still a student. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

HIIII, I found you through your Piper X Drew fanfiction and was so disappointed it was a one-shot so I made my own, could I credit you in it? It's 4 chapters in now.

Hell yeah.

If you want to link our fics, go for it. (if you don't know how) Just click the "This work is a remix, a translation, a podfic, or was inspired by another work" checkbox on your fic on AO3 and fill out the box. That'll add a link to your fic at the bottom of mine.

Happy writing. โค

Kinda feel like there's some untapped meme/reaction image potential from old horror movie trailers...

Since this is gaining traction again, here are the final ones. These had been on separate posts but I suppose they'll be more likely to be noticed here.

I doubt I'll post any more after this but I highly encourage others to go find more. YouTube has tons of old movie trailers and there is PLENTY of gold left to find.
