*they step out of the diner to see a giant eyeball in the sky*

I literally wrote a fic almost exactly like this

Would that story be "Let There Be Life on This Dry Land"? Because I found it on AO3 a while back, liked it, and bookmarked it.

I know most people don't care about anything unless it has to do with the U.S. but can we please start talking about the Canadian election.

Please don't vote for Poilievre. He's basically the Canadian Trump and plans to put in place laws that harm trans youth, and lots of other shit.

Please vote istg this is the only way anything will get better. Poilievre has been kissing millionaires and billionaires asses. He'll make life even harder, and he loves Trump.

Reblogs are appreciated, especially if you aren't Canadian.

From what I've gathered from my US friends, eggs have become hard to find and are super expensive. Likewise, it's been hard to get your hands on eggs over here too, and I've only been able to get imported ones thus far. This is of course pretty frustrating for someone who uses eggs in cooking frequently.

If you're struggling to afford eggs, and you live in areas where people keep chickens, your first point of call should be to chicken owners. You will be able to grab fresh eggs, generally at a cheaper price than supermarkets, and support local business too!

If you don't have access to this, you can also use plant substitutes in your cooking. This is particularly useful for vegans and those with egg allergies too. I found this table, which will hopefully help you out with using egg substitutes in your cooking. ~Tal

A very important addition:

[ID one: a graphic of an egg carton with eggs along the back row and egg substitutes across the front row. The top of the carton is labeled “Egg Substitutes.” From left to right the substitutes are as follows:

1. Ground Flaxseed— one tablespoon of ground flaxseed plus three tablespoons of water equals one egg. Note: mix seeds and water and let sit for 10-15 minutes.

2. Ground Chia Seed— one tablespoon of ground chia seed plus three tablespoons of water equals one egg. Note: mix seeds and water and let sit for 10-15 minutes.

3. Applesauce— a quarter cup of unsweetened applesauce equals one egg

4. Ripe Avocado— half a mashed avocado equals one egg.

5. Ripe Banana—half a mashed banana equals one egg

6. Coconut or Soy Yogurt— a quarter cup of coconut or soy yogurt equals one egg. Asterisk: can also use a quarter cup of silken tofu (blend until smooth before use). /End ID one.]

[ID two: tags from this post which say: “Please tell people when you use substitutes. People are allergic to everything.” The word everything is in all caps. /End ID two]

Personal baking note: it’s also important to know what your eggs are for before you choose a substitute. If you’re making cookies or cake where the eggs are for moisture, using applesauce, banana or yogurt is more appropriate. If your eggs are providing protein to hold your recipe together, you want one of the seed alternatives or avocado. If you’re breading and frying something and you need an egg substitute to stick your breading to whatever you’re baking, it may be more appropriate to use cornstarch and water.

If you’re unsure, there’s dozens of vegan home bakers who have figured it out already. Just googling whatever you’re making plus the word vegan will brink you at least half a dozen different egg free options. But it’s important to know that egg substitutes are not perfectly interchangeable.

Sad Bastard Expectations

It's 2025, and we're sadder than ever!

Maybe it's time for a Sad Bastard Cookbook sequel? Maybe a spin-off for parents of small children? Maybe both?

I'm new here. What's a Sad Bastard Cookbook?

Glad you asked! We wrote a cookbook full of judgement-free recipes you can make when you're suffering from mental illness, physical disability, poverty, or anything else late-stage capitalism throws up that makes basic self-care feel impossible. Some of the recipes were our own, some we collected from the community.

The ebook is free--you can download a copy here if you wanna check it out.

I'm a community! Or at least, a Person! Can I contribute my recipe for survival food?

YES PLEASE.

If you have a survival recipe that you make for yourself, or to feed a baby, toddler, or small child, please share that recipe here.

I’m a fan of the original Sad Bastard Cookbook—when will the new ones be here?

We really have no idea. We’re in the very early planning and writing stages of the two projects, but when we have more information, you’ll probably see it here first!

Signal boost!

THAT’S ALL FOLKS !

The original Looney Tunes animated shorts, which ran during the golden age of animation from 1930 through 1969, have been scrubbed.

Warner Bros. has removed all its original Looney Tunes animated shorts from its streaming service Max. The shorts ran during an almost 40-year period, between 1930 and 1969.

This is part of the streamer's new plan to prioritize adult and family programming,

as children's entertainment doesn't drive as much viewership.

These include six seasons of 2020’s Looney Tunes Cartoons, two seasons of 2015’s New Looney Tunes, two seasons of 2002’s Baby Looney Tunes, two seasons of 2023’s Tiny Toons Looniversity, five seasons of 1995’s The Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries, and two seasons of 2022’s Bugs Bunny Builders.

The removal of the original shorts comes just over a year after Warner Bros. scrapped courtroom comedy movie Coyote vs. Acme, despite the fact that production was fully complete. The film was set to see Wile E. Coyote take Acme Corporation to court after every product he orders from them backfires on him in his vendetta against the Road Runner. A down-on-his-luck human attorney (Will Forte) takes on the case, who in turn discovers that his intimidating former boss (John Cena) is now Acme's CEO – so he's even more determined to win it.

"My thoughts were that it’s fucking bullshit," Forte recently said about the film getting shelved. "It is such a delightful movie. It deserves so much better than it got. I can’t tell you possibly why the decision was made to not release it.

“But it makes my blood boil !”

Tubi has announced that on April 1, The Looney Tunes Show will be streaming for free, restoring some of the programming that had been scrubbed from Max. The Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries, which ran for five seasons between 1995 and 2000, is being added as well. It's a start for watching the removed Looney Tunes cartoons elsewhere, and these titles won't be alone. Also joining the shows on the first of the month will be several Scooby-Doo adventures, including Scooby-Doo! And the Spooky Scaredrow, Scooby-Doo! Ghostly Goals!, and Scooby-Doo! Mecha Mutt Menace.

“Hey - What’s Up Max?”
