Dropping the latest Sketch-a-Wish, voted on by my lovely Patreon members for January! Featuring Inez and Whit from WHAT THE RIVER KNOWS by Isabel Ibañez!

I noted in my last post that my Patreon members have been a bit kiss-crazy with these requests (not complaining, just noting!) And they were very sneaky with this one, requesting the 'River Rescue' scene! 😂 I remember there being a river rescue scene in WTRK, but when I went back to read it as a refresher to prep for this SAW, I completely forgot there was a 'rescue kiss'. I knew exactly what they were looking for. 😂

The book mentions the water is murkier than this (just as it is today), but Inez is having a moment here, so the sun is shining through! Even if a croc is strolling by!

How did you all like WHERE THE LIBRARY HIDES?? 🙌 I loved it so much, it was one of my favorite reads last year. Isabel completely satisfied the craving I was having during The Mummy/Brenaissance in 2023 with this series. Super excited for you to see the new art in the Fairyloot edition!

Heyyy everyone! Dropping the latest Sketch-a-Wish, voted on by my lovely Patreon members for the month of December! Featuring Celia and Marco from The Night Circus @erinmorgenstern

My Patreon members have been getting a bit kiss-crazy with these SAWs. 😂 For this piece, I wanted to take my time to re-read The Night Circus over the holiday break to prep for this. It's been several years since I listened to it for the first time (back when I designed the Build Me Dreams papercraft) and I was really put off by the audiobook and the story comprehension suffered because of it. I love Jim Dale (who read the US audiobooks for Harry Potter), who has multiple but very distinct voices and accents. I kept getting distracted recognizing and comparing every Night Circus character to their HP counterpart which completely took me out of the story at times. Some of the characters were really goofy sounding, which works well for HP, but not for the ethereal cast of TNC.

I can wholeheartedly say that I much more enjoyed this white-noise re-read of TNC and was able to experience it without all the distractions. There were even several scenes I've pinned that I'm eager to illustrate / papercraft beyond the one chosen for this SAW. Please look forward to those!

This is arguably the most colorful scene in the book (everyone is wearing a bright variety of colors), the ballroom is gold and both Celia and Marco wear a deep green. A stark contrast to the book's signature black, white and red color scheme. I offered my Patreon members a handful of color keys to choose from and the one shown here won the most votes!

After finishing the recent Lunar Chronicle's piece, the subject came up about the most satisfying bookish reunions I've read. I thought Scarlett & Wolf were a top-tier reunion, but then thought of these two. I remember when listing to the audiobook the first time, I experienced the rare and involuntary event of dropping what I was doing and lie supine in bed, clutching my pillow through the waves of fear, tension and relief from Chapters 13 & 14.

This wasn't a rose garden at the end of a rainbow. No fancy dresses or masquerade meetings. This was a dingy motel room with a bandaged-wrapped rat pack welcoming back their runaway. Though without knowing the context of this scene, it's super hard to understand the emotions conveyed. Andrew is holding down Neil by the neck, simmering with anger, but not toward Neil. Neil is in a state of pain and fear, but not by Andrew. What they're both probably feeling is a huge wave of relief knowing that they're both in the same room again.

Took a bit of liberty here with Andrew keeping his hand on Neil's neck (which I've personally equivocated to Andrew's version of a hug) which instead happens just before he pushes Neil down by the shoulder. On a technical note, I had fun with the previous set of illustrations and their background quotes, so I decided to carry that concept through this and any future AFTG artworks if it suits.  As with the previous two prints, this print will also donate a portion of each purchase to The Trevor Project (donations posted on shop listings). A new Bonus Sketch-a-Wish voted on by my wonderful Patreons for 2024! Featuring Nathaniel and Elisabeth fending off demons, a harrowing scene from Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson!

This has been such a frequently requested scene for the longest time, too right, as it's such memorable moment where the guy falls in love at first fight.  Prints available in bio link!

Dropping the latest Patreon Sketch-a-Wish, voted on by my lovely Patreon members for November! One of the peak scenes from Winter of The Lunar Chronicles Series by Marissa Meyer, featuring Cress and Thorne! Cress was my favorite character of the series, simply because of the harrowing nature of her story-line. (her satellite??) Given that each of the four main leads are retellings of classic fairytales, I think Cress and Thorne had the most clever adaptation. After doing a second couple illustration from the series, I'm getting the urge to complete the set. Especially, Scarlett + Wolf, who have one of the most satisfying reunion scenes I've read thus far. Prints available in bio link!

Hey, I wanted to ask what the 88 in your username means before I follow. I like the art, but I want to ask first

Curious, if the content of my account is so ambiguous to help you determine what it means, how could you expect others to determine it enough to judge you for following me?

And if you find that question deprecating, consider how much deprecation a question like yours implies when there exists an Unfollow button when and if evidence of your unlikely implication of this humble 36-year-old is ever confirmed. Hope you enjoy the art either way. 🧡

We just had our first decent cold front in Florida this past week, and the cravings for my wintery read list sky rocketed. I still haven't found a genre I love more than a strong-headed MC going toe-to-toe with and 'conquering' a demon of legend. Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik and the Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden top this list for me.

Here, Morozko and Vasya are finally catching each other at the peak of their own character arcs and very slow burn dance, while the world is burning around them.

Highly recommend the audiobook for Kathleen Gati's immersive narration! Prints of this available in my bio link!

Add some extra charm to the back endpapers of US editions of SPECTACULAR by Stephanie Garber with a sticker sheet!

Funfact: When I was designing the endpapers for the US editions of SPECTACULAR, I had initially assumed there would be two different endpapers at the front and back, so I made a 'Before and After' concept. Unfortunately, we only were able to use one (totally my fault for assuming!), but I lamented not having the 'After' see the light of day! Stephanie and her wonderful reps at @flatiron_books have graciously allowed me to design a sticker sheet so you can complete my original vision in your own copies of SPECTACULAR! Just place the four stickers in their respective corners on the back endpapers and you'll complete the story of Scarlett and Julian's mistletoe meetup, and Tella surprising Legend out of his humbug humph! Pre-order link is in my bio and are expected ship mid-December! :)

Latest Sketch-a-Wish voted on by my lovely Patreon members for September, featuring Elspeth and Ravyn from ONE DARK WINDOW by Rachel Gillig! I don't know about you all, but I got Pride vibes (from Full Metal Alchemist) with The Nightmare and so paid a little homage to that here. I know functionally it would be more like Greed/Ling, but the patient and lethal personality reminded me of Pride.

Latest Sketch-a-Wish voted on by my lovely Patreon members for August! Inspired by Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands (Emily Wilde #2) by Heather Fawcett, featuring Emily and Wendell in some morning afterglow. I love how Emily is being indecisive about doing the traditional romantic things before Wendell wakes, but then he cuddles up with her anyway, deciding for her. Too cute. I kept his bedhead just for you, Em.

Heyyy everyone!

Dropping the next Sketch-a-Wish, frequently requested by my lovely Patreon members. Featuring Isobel and Rook from AN ENCHANTMENT OF RAVENS by Margaret Rogerson

I had such fond memories of reading this stand-alone a while back, but completely forgot about this little exchange between these two (over a consequential teapot). The room has leaves falling, but imagined how magical it would be to have them falling from a canopy all through the night (with a magical clean-up in the morning).

This has been added to shop along with my other collection of Margaret Rogerson prints!

Heyyy everyone! Happy Monday! When I was adding my Raven Cycle prints to my shop, I unfortunately couldn't add my original artwork of this scene, as I had lost the files a long while back. So I decided to do a redraw! Probably one of my favorite scenes in Blue Lily, Lily Blue, I loved how much mirth Ronan had the whole time during this scene - he’s such a speed junkie. But Adam’s inner monologue of how to safely ‘buckle up’ for the trip and the routine nose guard he throws up with his hands when he knows they’re going to crash? I was guffawing.

Dropping the latest Sketch-a-Wish voted on by my lovely Patreon members for July! Featuring Rune and Gideon from Crimson Moth (Heartless Hunter) by @kristenciccarelli ! I went a bit abstract this with, and dropped some hidden imagery in Rune's hair for fun! This was another book I was sitting on waiting for the sequel, but finally jumped into it for this vote! Had a fun time with this one (Gideon, you tortured soul! 😢) Now with the major shift in status quo at the end, looking forward to the sequeeeel, Rebel Witch!

Heyy everyone! Dropping the latest Sketch-a-Wish, one that has been repeatedly requested by my lovely patreon members-- with a caveat! There were frequent requests for two scenes: one where Sophie tells Howl to find her in the future, and the 'There you are' scene in the beginning. I decided to bridge the gap between these two scenes and show something we've never seen before - the secret moment when Howl tracks Sophie down using matching ring he gave to Sophie. If you'll notice in the movie, it's sparkling just as he puts his hand on her shoulder. I thought it would be a fun 'what if' fanart for this off-screen theory. :)

Dropping the latest Sketch-a-Wish voted on by my lovely Patreon members, featuring Adam and Ronan in an exaggerated representation of probably the most popular quote for the pair in The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater.

A scene where Ronan is tracing Adam's palm, while inwardly monologuing the metaphor of his feelings as an oil-spilled ocean, ready to burn at the slightest spark. I just had fun with it!

(also, is the oil-spilled ocean metaphor stemming from the fact Ronan finds Adam covered in / smelling like motor oil from his mechanic job? 🤔)
