Given the growing little community I am meeting, a short introduction is in order. This blog is my little safe space from the outside troubles. As I would like to have a safe space for others too, I don't engage here with topics not related to Tes, Bg3, Lotr, Dune or Fantasy/Sci-Fi in general. I post mainly about Elder Scrolls Online, Baldur's Gate 3, Tes, sometimes Lotr and Dune. But you may see also other fantasy media, fanart and talented artists. Because I don't feel comfortable with sharing too much online, I will keep my age private but I am an adult and as such, this blog may occasionally contain 18+ content (within Tumblr guidelines of course).

Feel free to interact, I am always happy to hear people rant about their passions and hyperfixations. Consider yourself always invited :)

the only thing i even remotely care about in the oblivion remaster is martin septim. let me see his face. he is the one from my dreams...

@labskeever With the status of gamedev nowadays, costs are so high and development times are so long that companies need to double their efficiency (that is, make money in the meantime between major releases). This goes doubly for larger companies with especially long dev cycles, massive budgets, and major expected sales/GOTY status. Sometimes companies expecting a major release will surprise drop a remaster/remake/spinoff as a sort of practice run beforehand. It's a way to lower the dev workload, build shareholder confidence, and stress test the engine/servers for the major release all in one. It helps that it makes money for the publisher in the meantime as well. After the smaller release drops devs can look at the public reception and make tweaks to the major release accordingly.

See: GTA remaster trilogy (2021) vs GTA VI (2025), FFVII Crisis Core Reunion (2022) vs FFVII Rebirth (2024), Fallout New Vegas (2010) vs Skyrim (2011), Alan Wake remaster (2022) vs Alan Wake 2 (2023) as some popular examples. You can check those games out to see some pretty clear examples of the devs "practicing" on the smaller game (i.e. playing as Zack in CC:R vs Rebirth or the caves in New Vegas vs Skyrim)

Based of @sketcher20 idea!

Also just in case Mizri and Minthara are not sisters they just look kinda similar lol. They both grew up in Menzoberranzan though!

(Also don’t mind the shitty screenshot background i didn’t feel like drawing one lmao)

u/Harizovblike on Reddit created 1 to 1 comparison images of Oblivion and the Remake

I find it interesting that beyond the coloring grading differences (which I guarantee there will be mods to "fix" on day 1) that the Remake seems to definitely have differences in placement of certain world items.

Eg. More trees, more detailed city environments. Slightly different architecture and world geometry etc.

Also ugh..it is SOOOO NICE to see *good* draw distances and high quality LOD in the remake. Just look at the snow capped mountains and the pine trees in the far distance.

Since it couldn't render many distant objects, OG Oblivion just used muddled groud textures and zero tree LOD for distant areas where you *know* there's a forest.

I love how the remake has LOD which allows you to genuinely notice dungeons and ruins from FAR away. You can see Frostcrag Spire from the Imperial City! That's like half the map away!

As cool as the OG Oblivion is, the terrible draw distance and lack of good LOD drove me nuts. Glad to see the remake has addressed that.
