"You look like someone's grandfather is aging backwards." K, pick your pronouns. Book thoughts, Judaism, pictures of leaves and things with wings.

selections from surrealist artist Claude Cahun's 1920s self portraits exploring gender, performance, and sexuality

i love this tweet bc it’s the exact same genre of culturally tapped in unnecessary haterism i also peddle in

On top of tariffs, dismantling the entire Department of Agriculture is going to devastate food availability and prices, SNAP, and rural loans and development

Trump 1.0 tried to relocate a single small agency, the Bureau of Land Management, and almost all of the workers refused to move and the Bureau collapsed

That's what's going to happen to the USDA

Dismantling the Dept of Education made the news

This... This is far more devastating. Between this and tariffs, I genuinely think people will starve. THIS is making me freak the fuck out.

the student said, "i'm reading a zen buddhist cookbook. with no recipes." and the teacher replied, "ah, dogen's instructions for the cook, written in 1237?" "yeah," said the student, "it's saying not to let rats fall into the rice pot"

letting rats fall into the rice pot violates the buddhist concept of nonviolence, ahimsa. and this is one of the more dauntingly advanced cookbooks i've ever seen

ingredients: 1 grain of dust.

step 1 turn the Wheel of Reality within the grain of dust

it turns out that what has been tormenting me about gender was expressed ages ago by joan nestle better than I could have done it; “gender is both a real, material reality embedded in the histories in all of us and an imagined place where my body can shape-change into hardness, into boyness, into the sheep drover Jim who makes love to his barmaid girlfriend Peg.” we are not defined by not being men, we are not always and forever non-men, we are lesbians who shapechange into men and women and whatever else pleases us, I was right that part of my gender is the queer boy who was beaten out of my father and uncles

I feel like it's really easy to discuss your fiction work online as like, a replacement for actually working on the fiction. You can post all day about who a character is, and how they might react to stuff. But you have to actually make the character good in the book first.
