i feel like people who don’t like solas or solavellan have such a warped perspective of what the romance is and how fans of it actually engage in it. like i’ve seen a lot of (most likely het dudes lol) on reddit say they tried it to see what the fuss was but felt it was “demeaning” and i’ve seen it described as literally a horror story where solas is manipulating and using and lying to a young impressionable lavellan who gives up her entire identity for him and becomes a complete doormat to all the awful shit he does. that’s never been my experience and i kinda just want to ramble about how i see it and what i find romantic about it?

When you complain "if only X character had writers who loved them," what do you mean? 

Like what you do actually mean. 

I'm about to go on a rant about a particular character I see this about MOST, but this question is definitely not limited to him - I've seen it about multiple characters.

#reblog#dragon age#fun fact solas does actually have a line in support of anders#it's super rare to get#it's only with low approval#and you have to ally with the templars or conscript the mages i think to get it#but if the inquisitor brings up anders blowing the chantry#solas will respond sarcastically about that being 'completely unprovoked'#but yes i see this with the solas fans as well#if the writers don't make sure your special little guy is completely vindicated by the narrative#that means they had some agenda against them#and not that this character was created to serve a narrative purpose?#and to provoke questions in the audience#it's a very stantwitter-esque way of doing character analysis#that completely ignores how stories are meant to function
